“Hyster-Yale –Leveraging Limited PE staff to Develop EIT’s into PE’s”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will deliver the program via our Zoom link. Non-members are welcome to attend at no cost, but there will be a nominal charge if a PDH certificate is desired. The Zoom link is provided below.

Program Abstract:
How do you support and grow professional licensure within a large engineering community with a limited group of licensed engineering managers?
Many companies hire young, degreed engineers out of college. Often, they may already be engineers-in-training (EIT), having passed the first hurdle on a journey towards professional licensure.  However, the ability to achieve professional licensure varies between companies and even within individual companies due to staffing. OAR 820-010-1020, “Education and Experience Requirements for Registration as a Professional Engineer,” sets minimum requirements for experience under the direction and supervision of a registered professional engineer. This often prevents EIT’s from finding a path to their PE license.
Meeting direction and supervision requirements had been a challenge for some of Hyster-Yale’s engineers at our Fairview, OR development center. Many interested young engineers striving for professional licensure weren’t able to meet the minimum experience requirement due to our management structure. The Hyster-Yale engineering community and PEO collaborated on a solution that Hyster-Yale submitted to and received general support from OBSEELS Board.
By sharing the Hyster-Yale Group’s story, you’ll learn about an alternate approach, leveraging PE’s to develop engineers and promote licensure.
