In the 2023 Welch Business Growth Survey, government red tape and procurement were among the top five significant barriers to growth identified by Ottawa businesses. We must continue to reduce these barriers and create a competitive, predictable environment in which businesses can grow.

Thank you to Minister Parm Gill’s office and Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria for welcoming OBOT to advocate on behalf of members to reduce government red tape and modernize public sector procurement.

Thank you to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce hosting the roundtable with Minister Sarkaria and Supply Ontario. A special thanks to the OBOT members, small business owners, and BIA representatives who joined the discussions at our roundtable with the Ministry of Red Tape Reduction and shared their ideas on how the government of Ontario can reduce red tape and unnecessary burdens businesses face.

Congratulations to Air France on the launch of their direct

flight to Ottawa.

This route is great news for the tourism industry, talent and investment attraction, and our city as a whole. Easy access to Europe is important to economic development in Canada's Capital Region.

The Ottawa Board of Trade and Ottawa Business Journal are thrilled to be hosting our highly anticipated annual golf tournament at the stunning GreyHawk Golf Club on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. This year's tournament will once again span across two 18-hole courses and bring together 240+ of the city's business leaders.

We’re excited to announce this year’s charity partner Ottawa Network For Education's Junior Achievement and to support our region's next

generation of leaders.

What a great time was had by all on Friday! Thank you to the business and community leaders who joined us and the Ottawa Business Journal to celebrate this year's recipients at the Westin Ottawa. The Forty Under 40 Gala is a chance to recognize and celebrate these young leaders from across Canada's Capital Region for their achievement, their expertise and their commitment to our community.

At Friday's Gala we were pleased to announce that we raised $18,000 in support of the region's next generation of young entrepreneurs through Ottawa Network for Education's JA Ottawa.

Special thanks to our event partners:

We had a great time last night at the launch of our summer issue of CAPITAL Magazine - our 18th edition, and first in partnership with TAAG! Special thanks to Mary W. Rowe for stopping by and saying a few words. She reminded us all that while bold action is needed to revitalize our downtown core, small, incremental actions also add up.

Business and city building are all part of the same picture. But the true Ottawa advantage is our people. This edition of CAPITAL, which will be available online in the next day or so, shares insights from city leaders, national economists and local businesspeople who are working together to leverage growth opportunities, and create a city where people want to live. We're excited to share the latest developments in our city and shine a spotlight on local businesses, initiatives, and leaders.

Ottawa. It’s our time. Let’s light it up!

As the voice of business, the Ottawa Board of Trade advocates on behalf of our members and the business community to all levels of government?

We couldn’t do the work that we do without all the volunteers who participate on our business councils and committees to provide recommendations and implement action plans in support of businesses in Canada’s Capital Region. We are grateful for their leadership and thank each of them for their dedication to help enrich local businesses, our community, and city.
