The season’s Summer Reading Program has kicked off, but it’s never too late to register! Sign up online for any of the programs, events, or performances offered and you’re automatically enrolled in the SRP!
We’ll have special presenters and performances each Wednesday leading up to our Aug. 2 finale, including:
Other programs taking place this summer include Mixed Media Masterpieces and Workshop Wednesdays with Miss Christine, Storytime, Crafting Caboodles, and STEM Experiments and Fab Facts with Miss Michelle, Christmas in July, BIG BINGO, and more! Registration is required for all events (and for each child who will be attending) - sign up soon while spots are still available!

Read to get a chance at LEGOLAND tickets! | |

The library’s All Together Now Summer Reading Program challenge gives your young readers even more of an incentive to pick up a book!
This year, readers will receive a chart that lists different numbered reading challenges (for example, “Read a biography”). Participants mark off each challenge as they complete it and write in the corresponding book on their log. To qualify for the grand prize of four tickets to LEGOLAND, readers will earn one raffle entry for every five book challenges they complete on the chart. They’ll have up to five chances to win and will get an extra raffle ticket for finishing the chart!
This challenge will run through August 27, with the grand prize winner being drawn during the week of Sept. 4. Those who submit a review of their favorite book (out of what they read for the chart) will be considered for a surprise incentive!
The reading chart, instructions, reading log, and book review form are all available on the library’s website. Good luck, all!

The adult raffle bags and baskets are back, and this year you have more chances than ever to win one! That’s because in addition to earning a raffle ticket by reading or listening to a book or magazine, you can get one by attending one of our adult programs!
This summer’s adult programming includes mahjong groups, a book club, a coloring club, crafting, and more, so there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a hobby or learn a new one while meeting new people with similar interests.
Adults ages 18 and over are eligible to participate. Ask at the circulation desk if you’d like more information!

Anne Tyler next on Fiction Club’s list | | |

The adult Fiction Club will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 18 to discuss Anne Tyler’s Clock Dance.
Clock Dance is a 2019 novel that features a female protagonist who makes a spur-of-the-moment decision that winds up changing her life.
The Fiction Club meets at the library – all are welcome to attend the meetings!

On the road with RCLS

SRP kicks off with Bert the Nerd | | |

The Wallkill Public Library's 2023 SRP kick-off was a raving success with over 100 people gathered in the Community room for the Bert the Nerd Comedy and Variety Show.
Kids were huge participants and supporters of the "circus" theme show with everyone walking the tight rope to wrap it up!

Poor air quality brought our Fun on the Lawn into the Town Community room for a "spirit eye" weaving craft, S'mores kits to go, and snacks. A few die-hards braved the chunky air and gathered on the lawn with Ms. Kim for some water fun and games to end our kick-off week at the library. | |

Every Wednesday at 1 p.m. and Thursday at 6 p.m. the library hosts our Mahjong Clubs. If you’re a player or just interested in learning, join us! We supply the games and (a limited number of) 2023 mahjong cards. Just drop in, no registration required.

Our doors are open for library services including browsing for library materials, making copies, sending faxes, and using the public access computers.

Our bookdrop is open for contact-free and after-hours returns of library materials. Be sure to secure DVD and BCD cases with rubber bands.

Curbside delivery of pre-ordered items is available by request. Call the circulation desk at 845-895-3707 to make a pick-up appointment.

Fine-free returns on everything, except museum/park passes.

Inter-library loans are available between all RCLS libraries.

Online programming, with materials necessary for crafts available for pickup at the library.

In-person programming, with appropriate social distancing.

Museum passes are available to Wallkill Public Library patrons for Boscobel House and Gardens, Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum, Empire Pass, Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, Hudson River Maritime Museum, Mohonk Preserve, Museum Village, and Storm King Art Center. Plus, more print-at-home museum passes available through the Ulster County InfoPortal on the library’s website.
