(12 - 1 p.m.) Project-Based Learning (PBL) can seem daunting when you have time constraints, standards, and a curriculum map. Often, the push for better test scores and “basic skills” means certain students (English Language Learners, Special Education students) fail to have access to these projects. However, PBL can work for all students, and in this workshop, I lay out the blueprint for making this a reality.

(10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) Block-based coding is a great way to introduce K-8 students to computer programming, but what are some playful and engaging activities to get started? In this hands-on workshop, Lauren from the Unruly Splats team will share 3 easy activities that combine coding and play and share a few stories of how other educators are incorporating coding and play across their curriculum. There will be games, there will be code, there will be fun!

(12 - 1 p.m.) Teachers across the country are sending their students outside to the sidewalk or around the side of their home in search of utility meters. Join us to find and learn about these hidden-in-plain-sight advanced technologies that track how much we use but can also be used to help us save. This interactive presentation will allow students to compare their real home with typical data patterns of water and energy use plus share their opinion of popular strategies to be more efficient.

(12 - 1 p.m.) EXPLORE YOUR WORLD and FIND YOUR SUPERPOWER! We are so fortunate to be alive at this moment in time on this planet! Nature on Earth is truly astounding, and transformational scientific discoveries about our environment occur daily. Yes, there are also environmental, economic, social and health crises, but there are also solutions. So, this all-ages presentation is about how to develop your skills, interests, and abilities to create unique contributions, healthier communities and, ultimately, a better future.
