This year reminded us that collaboration isn’t just a value. It’s a force. When we come together for all kids, change becomes possible.

Across Marin, we’ve seen what happens when families, educators, and organizations align around a shared goal for equity. Whether it's partners building a countywide data dashboard to close early learning gaps or Canal residents shaping a Promise Neighborhood, we’re not just recovering from the challenges of past years but rebuilding stronger systems for the future.

Every story in this update is a reflection of your work and our shared promise to support every student, in every neighborhood, to thrive and achieve their full potential. Thank you for helping move that promise forward.

EARLY LEARNING / DATA

Early Childhood Data Like Never Before

For the first time in Marin County, we will soon have a shared developmental data dashboard to see how our youngest kids are growing before they enter school.

This dashboard will gather data from Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ), a tool that provides a snapshot of a child's development from birth through 66 months across five areas: communication, fine motor, gross motor, problem solving, and personal–social.

The new dashboard will securely bring together ASQ data from across the county, helping partners see patterns, identify needs earlier, and coordinate supports more effectively.

PROMISE NEIGHBORHOODS / PLACE-BASED

Promise Neighborhood Momentum Growing Across Marin

This fall, the Canal community took bold steps toward becoming Marin’s first Promise Neighborhood, a collaborative model where residents, schools, and local organizations design solutions together that help children and families thrive.

From resident-led community fairs to new action teams focused on improving early learning and college readiness, Canal Promise Neighborhood partners are turning community priorities into coordinated action. Across California, this type of place-based collaboration has shown real results, from stronger kindergarten readiness to higher graduation rates.

The Canal is just the beginning. Conversations are already underway about what it would take to bring this model to other parts of Marin.

CRADLE TO CAREER MILESTONES / SYSTEMS CHANGE

Stronger Systems, Better Outcomes for Marin's Students

Marin County is seeing steady signs of recovery across the cradle-to-career milestones we track. Six of the seven outcomes have improved compared to the height of the pandemic, showing that our local systems are regaining strength.

Recent statewide results reinforce this progress: third grade reading and eighth grade math both improved again this year.

These milestone gains are the result of partners across Marin expanding early learning access, strengthening school-based supports, maintaining strong college access collaboration, and deepening place-based work.

Eighth grade math is one example of how student outcomes are continuing to trend upward after pandemic disruptions.

While we may not be back at pre-pandemic numbers, these positive trends show that Marin is building stronger, more connected systems that can support every child’s success in the long term.

Partner Spotlights

Congratulations to Maria Patricia Niggle, Executive Director of First 5 Marin, for being honored as Latina Leader of the Year by Marin Latino Leaders!

Another great Dinner & Data event by Sausalito Marin City School District reviewing student data as a community to help shape the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

As Sarah Hobson prepares to retire as CEO of West Marin Fund, we celebrate her years of leadership and partnership in West Marin. Sarah has been a steady champion for collaboration in West Marin, helping expand early learning opportunities and strengthen the relationships that make community-led work possible. Her leadership has shaped the way partners show up for children and families across West Marin, and her impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

After two Community Schools meetings, Shoreline Unified School District partners are aligning families, providers, and district leaders around data, shared learning, and a growing vision for what “One Shoreline” can mean for students and families.

At the last Future Ready Team meeting, partners spent some time understanding the role of California Colleges Guidance Initiative (CCGI) and the potential benefits to A-G eligibility improvement.
