Virtual reality simulations are creating better surgeons

"At the University of Utah’s Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library (EHSL), “we are currently doing a number of really interesting projects [with virtual technologies],” says Benjamin Engel, a U of U virtual reality programmer who runs the day-to-day operations at EHSL. His projects include a trauma lead simulation where a patient comes in with a number of issues into the trauma bay and the participant plays the role of the head doctor who must direct everyone to save the patient. The simulation allows students to “gain practice calling directions for an infinite amount of scenarios and cases.”"

Joe's Valley Featured by Governor's Office of Economic Development
"Joe’s Valley is an iconic bouldering destination in Emery County, UT where little to no infrastructure existed, leading to concerns over environmental impacts and damage. The Access Fund worked alongside partners at Emery County, USFS, BLM and the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance, while also receiving a Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant (UORG), to initiate a sustainability and recreation improvement project for the climbing areas in Joe’s Valley. This initiative is a valuable project to the climbers in the area, as well as the Emery County towns and cities that are seeing the economic benefits of the area’s improvement."

"Eighty students from Emery School District participate in the First Lego League program each year. These students are in grades fourth through eighth. First Lego League (FLL) is a worldwide program that teaches students valuable life skills in addition to programming their robots. The main focuses of the program are robot design, core values, innovative research projects and robot game.

Involved students learn coding skills, problem solving skills, the importance of teamwork and how to more effectively communicate and present information to others. Four teams qualified for the state competition at the recent Emery Qualifier Robotics Tournament in mid-January at Emery High School. Ronabouts was the winner of the Champion’s award while Emoji-Coders won the Robot Performance Award. Sharkbait received the Core Values Award and Cougar Players was awarded the Innovative Project award.
