Shooting In San Jose Leaves Man Dead, Suspect Still At Large
A South Bay neighborhood is demanding answers after a man was shot and killed in broad daylight Wednesday. The crime happened in the 1000 block of Blossom River Drive around 2:30 p.m. where residents said they heard nearly 10 gunshots. Police have not identified the dead man but neighbors say it's 42-year-old Jorge Torres. “I really didn't know what to do, the first thing I did do was get his dog, take him home and I had to let his mom know,” said Yvette Osuna, the victim’s neighbor. She was among the neighbors who said they immediately ran outside and saw a friend lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. She believes Torres had been out walking his dog. The victim died on scene, making this the ninth homicide of the year. Police are urging the public to come forward with any information they may have and are asking for any video of the incident, anything that’ll help them connect the dots.

Suspected hit-and-run leaves 1 in critical condition
San Jose police are investigating an alleged hit-and-run collision that left one person with life-threatening injuries at about midnight Sunday morning near Berryessa Road and Piedmont Road.  
Pedestrian Dies Of Injuries After Getting Hit By Car In San Jose
A man has died of his injuries after getting hit by a car earlier this week in San Jose, police said Friday. The collision happened on Tuesday at about 6:15 in the area of N. White Road and Kentridge Drive. San Jose Police said a grey 2001 Chevrolet PT Cruiser was heading north on N. White Road when it veered into the southbound lanes and struck a pedestrian standing in the bike lane waiting to cross the street. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and on Thursday, he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
San Jose Math Tutor Arrested For Child Porn Possession
The director of a San Jose math tutoring center for children was arrested on child pornography charges, police said Thursday. Deoel Credo Noveno, 30, worked as a center director for Mathnasium in south San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department. An investigation into Noveno was launched by detectives with the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
San Jose Police Arrest 2 More Suspects In Armed Robberies Targeting AAPI Community
Police in San Jose announced two more arrests Wednesday in a series of strong-arm robberies, which appeared to be targeting members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. On April 13, officers from the SJPD Covert Response Unit arrested 20-year-old Demario Emmanuel and 19-year-old Jayonae Glaser, both of whom are from Oakland.
Student Arrested After Loaded Firearm Seized At San Jose Middle School, Police Say
Police in San Jose arrested a middle school student Friday for allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school, the department said. Officers were still at Hoover Middle School on Park Avenue as of about 1 p.m., where they said they took a juvenile into custody and seized a loaded handgun. Police were initially alerted to the situation at 10:21 a.m. No threats were made and there is not any ongoing threat to the school or its surrounding area, police said.
17 Arrested In Connection With 11 Gang-Related Sikh Shootings In Northern California
A Northern California multi-agency investigation into gang violence between rival Sikh groups connected to 11 shootings has resulted in 17 arrests, authorities said Monday during a news conference. Law enforcement officials said they connected two gangs to an Aug. 27, 2022, mass shooting where five men were shot outside a Stockton Sikh temple and a March 26 shooting where two men were shot near a Sacramento County Sikh temple. 
Nearly 800 Pounds Of Fentanyl Worth $21.1 Million Found In Shipment Of Green Beans
A recent shipment of green beans in California was packing a lot more than essential vitamins. On Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection found a shipment of the vegetable carrying more than 3.5 million fentanyl pills that have an estimated worth of $21.1 million. Officials said in a press release on Tuesday that they found the hidden shipment at the Otay Mesa port in San Diego, California, when they inspected a 48-year-old driver's tractor trailer. 
Rookie Louisville Officer Who Was Shot In The Head Has Developed Pneumonia
A rookie Louisville police officer who remains in critical condition after a mass shooting has developed pneumonia. The Louisville Metro Police Foundation, which is raising money for the care of Officer Nickolas Wilt, shared an update from Wilt’s twin brother on Facebook Tuesday, asking people to “send prayers and healing thoughts” to Wilt, who is still on a ventilator. The post said pneumonia “is a common illness after being on a vent, the doctors & nurses are working to treat it.

The U.S. is setting a record pace for mass killings in 2023, replaying the horror on a loop roughly once a week so far this year. The carnage has taken 88 lives in 17 mass killings over 111 days. Each time, the killers wielded firearms. Only 2009 was marked by as many such tragedies in the same period of time. Children at a Nashville grade school, gunned down on an ordinary Monday.

CDC Greenlights Spring COVID Booster For Some. Do You Need It?
Another COVID-19 booster shot is on the way as federal health officials look to further augment protection for those at greater risk of developing severe disease. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday recommended the allowance of an additional updated booster for seniors 65 and older as well as those who are immunocompromised.
