Help Homeless Kids in Your Local Area
The Night Night Project

Date/Time: At your convenience

Location: Deliver your donations to shelters in your community. Click here for a list of shelters in the Bay Area from Project Night Night .

Ages: This is a great project for the whole family.

Time Commitment: Varies

To ease the anxiety associated with shelter living, Project Night Night distributes Night Night Packages to homeless children ages 0-10. Each Night Night Package includes an age-appropriate book, a baby blanket which can be cuddled, and a stuffed animal which can become a cherished friend. Finding comfort is vitally important for children in order to feel secure, loved, and valued - even in the midst of the upheaval and uncertainty attendant to homelessness. The mission of the Night Night Project is to provide free Night Night Packages to homeless children from birth to pre-teen who need our childhood essentials to have a concrete and predictable source of security and increased exposure to high-quality literacy materials during this time of upheaval.

Project Night Night wants your project to be as successful as possible. With that in mind, we have developed a program that allows you to benefit homeless children in your local area.
  1. Determine the number of Night Night Packages you want to complete.
  2. Order tote bags from Project Night Night at $3.50 each (this covers the cost of the tote and shipping to you)
  3. Fill each tote bag with a new blanket, book and stuffed animal.
  4. Deliver your assembled Night Night Packages to a shelter on our list or that you find. We can help! In the Bay Area, we may request that you deliver your filled totes to our local office.
  5. Ensure that the homeless children in your community feel special!

Help the TCV Foodbank

Location: 37350 Joseph Street, Fremont

Ages: Families with children age 13 and older are welcome to volunteer. Those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult or chaperone.

Volunteers are essential to Tri-City Volunteers (TCV) food bank's daily grocery cart preparation and distribution. They need approximately 40 warehouse volunteers a day to ensure that as many as 200 client families per day receive adequate nutrition. Volunteers also help sort and hang donated clothing and attractively merchandise their thrift store, which provides very low-cost items to struggling families. Community volunteers are the heart of the agency! Not only do volunteers work directly with low and very-low-income families, they bring to life their vision of a community united together to ensure that every child and adult in our area is not just free from hunger, but can access pathways to financial stability and self-sufficiency. While volunteers assist families in Tri-City Volunteers' food bank and thrift store, they are also connecting with others. That is the real strength of TCV's work.

Contact: Stephanie, volunteer@tcvfoodbank.org. Attend an orientation and set shift(s) by emailing volunteer@tcvfoodbank.org or call 510.793.4583. TCV hosts 40-50-minute orientations every Wednesday at 10am and Thursday at 1pm. Orientations are mandatory for new individual volunteers and no registration is required - just show up!
