You know the Trump administration has riled up average Americans when people in their 80s and 90s start demonstrating on street corners. That is exactly the case with the Silver Badgers. The rapidly growing Silver Badgers, founded in spring 2025 by a group of West Madison senior citizens, are fighting for their rights and the rights of children and grandchildren. At this event, some Silver Badgers will outline how they got started and became the vibrant group they are today. We have several surprises in store at this morning event. Coffee and light breakfast items will be served.



Regardless of age, all are welcome to this event!

Bridge To A Better Tomorrow Rally ☀️

SWWAP is hosting a silent protest rally on and near the bike trail bridge in Mount Horeb on Tuesday, August 18, 3:30 - 5 pm. Bring a sign or borrow one from the SWWAP collection. The theme of the rally is protecting democracy from a regime that is actively working to undermine the sacred American values.

Mount Horeb Municipal Clerk, Alyssa Gaffney, reminds everyone that the Primary Election date is Tuesday, August 11. Absentee ballots should be placed in the mail by July 28, allowing two weeks for the postal service to deliver to the Village. You can also return your completed, witnessed ballot directly to Alyssa at the village hall, or to the polls on Election Day.

Early in-person voting started July 28 and runs through August 8: 9-3pm, on the second floor of the Village Hall. Outlying towns should check with their municipal clerks for dates and times of early voting.

Fair Maps Coalition Comes To Mount Horeb

SWWAP and Brix Cider thanks Nicole Gabrail of the Fair Maps Coalition for presenting an insightful presentation on the ongoing journey to bring a fair and nonpartisan process to draw redistricting maps to Wisconsin.

Fannie Lou Hamer represents all the best in America. “I had never heard, until 1962, that Black people could register and vote,” Hamer said. She was 44 years old and was determined to exercise the right she had so long been denied. At age 50 she attended the 1964 Democratic National Convention, where Hamer argued that, because Blacks were not allowed to vote in Mississippi, the state’s Democratic delegates were not legally elected. In a fiery speech, she pushed the party to seat the MFDP delegates and coined the now iconic phrase, “I’m just sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
