"I started running about 10 years ago with the goal of breaking up my work day in the office, I didn't know then that this would lead to running 9  marathons!  I prefer  to run outside (to leave the office), often  changing paths (against the monotony). I am currently based in Italy, where I ran the Athens Marathon, the "original" city, and I recorded my PR in Rome.  I have always wanted to run the Boston Marathon  after spending much time in the city visiting my sister, Chiara and her partner Sandro."

"I am excited (and a bit terrified) to run my first marathon ever this year, and I am even more excited to do it on behalf of SLM. I have been proud to ride for SLM in the Rodman Ride for Kids each of the past three years (Go Silver Lining Spinners!) and I decided this would be a great new challenge. I am inspired by the dedicated work SLM does every day, building meaningful relationships with youth in foster care - everyone needs someone in their corner! I am working hard to prepare for the run (not easy with the weather around here) and I am committed to finishing, even if I have to crawl across the finish line.

I live in Wellesley, Massachusetts with my wife, Laura Hockett, our daughter Sara, and, intermittently, our other two daughters Julia and Diana, both of whom are in college. I first learned about SLM from Laura when she began working with the organization via Social Venture Partners. I am is a big believer in the amazing job SLM does. Whether it is by contributing to my run, or through other means, please find a way to help support this wonderful organization!"

"I have been actively involved with Silver Lining Mentoring for the last 4 years - serving as the Chair of the Board of Ambassadors and most recently as a mentor for Silver Lining's Learn and Earn program.  2017 will be my third year running the Boston Marathon for Silver Lining Mentoring!"

"I am proud to have recently joined SLM and I currently a mentor in the Learn and Earn program. I'm not new to helping those in foster care. My family fostered a child for many years when I was young and living in NY. I and my wife Donna were foster parents for several years in MA. And now, I am continuing this passion to help SLM.
This will be my second marathon; the first was NYC 20 years ago. I'm excited to run Boston, which is probably the best marathon in the world.  It is also symbolic for me; originally from NYC and now a MA resident for over 10 years, I feel it's only fitting to run a marathon in my new hometown. Side note: I hope to raise additional funds to pay for the likely knee surgery I will need after April 17th!"

"W hat does it take to be a mentor?"

There isn't a simple answer to that question, but there are a few things that we value above all at Silver Lining Mentoring.  Chief among them are; consistency, communication and adaptability to meet a young person where they are.

Julie, Program Coordinator at SLM, spoke with recently matched mentor Tim as part of their regular check-in that mentors have with SLM staff.  Tim talked about his experience being matched with a mentee and what excites him about being a mentor. Click here to read more!

"SLM's values of being youth focused, and initiative supporting LGBTQ+ align with my personal beliefs and experiences supporting LGBTQ+. I am excited to support young people as they develop their own authentic voices to positively impact the climates and systems they navigate on a daily basis. I'm excited to collaborate with SLM's vibrant family of young people, mentors and fellow staff as we grow in the areas of youth leadership, advocacy and life skills."

"In my role, I get to work with members of the community who are dedicated to keeping SLM successful, and helping us to always move forward. Each day, my work focuses on those who are supporting SLM in the the most impactful ways they can."
