GOOD THINGS HAPPEN EVERY DAY AT
THE SILVER ACADEMY!

From Rachel Zilbering, Principal

I have returned from Israel with the 7th and 8th grade students. It was such a memorable trip, and will be hard to summarize in just a few sentences. Our plane ride to Israel was a foreshadowing of the trip and a representation of Israel herself. There were adults from all streams of Judaism, students (us) and 45 people who were moving to Israel (making aliyah). That is Israel...a mix of the ancient and modern history, created by Jews who have origins throughout the world.
Our trip was a combination of religious sites, historical sites and fun experiences. Some of the highlights include visiting the Old City of Jerusalem and the Kotel, the Dead Sea, Masada, a thrilling Jeep ride, a nerve-wracking rappelling trip, the bustling markets and even an Israeli supermarket.
In many ways, this trip was a culmination of studies at The Silver Academy. We read and study about Judaism, but seeing it in Israel makes it come alive. We all felt a connection to the people and to our homeland. An Israel trip is always transformative, and this one was no exception. I thank all of the parents, grandparents, friends and community members who helped financially to make this trip possible

t was so very worth it!

It's hard to believe that we only have a few weeks until the end of the year. First grade is still going strong! They are busy getting ready for their Siddur celebration! Every morning since the beginning of the year, they learned brachot, tfilot, and different tunes for davening. This week students, with the help of parents, decorated the covers of their siddur...they are beautiful! Students are ready and excited!
This Tuesday, May 16, is a very important day for first grade. Students have prepared a special program filled with dance, songs, and tfilot, and of course, this is the time when each student will receive his/her siddur. We invite all of our friends and families to share our simchah!

Third grade has been studying geometry in a unique way...with cereal!
Students are learning that nets are
patterns that can be cut and folded to make a model of a solid shape.
To further their understanding of nets, they created their own mini-cereal boxes. Each student first "developed" a new cereal by designing the cereal box with the cereal's name, brand name, and ingredients. They even included a fun game on the back! The last stage of the project was "production". Students cut out the geometrical nets and assembled their unique cereal boxes.
