THINGS HAPPEN EVERY DAY AT
THE SILVER ACADEMY!
|
|
From Rachel Zilbering, Principal
rzilbering@silveracademypa.org
Like many schools in the area, The Silver Academy was full of activities this week! On Monday, we held our annual Lag B'Omer Field Day. Our field day is a unique combination of field activities, chants and poster creation. Our posters are one of the highlights of the day. This year, we chose three special middot (positive character traits) and assigned one to each team. The themes were: Chesed (kindness), Kavod (respect) and Rodef Shalom (pursuer of peace). If you have ever been in the school during the morning announcements, you will recognize these traits as the main parts of our student pledge. Students did an unbelievable job of weaving each theme into a beautiful poster.
On Tuesday, I was back at school in the evening for the Kitah Aleph (1st Grade) Siddur Celebration. Students sang about how the prayerbook brought light and hope into their lives. They joined together in spirited song and dance and beamed as they finally received their siddurim.
On Wednesday, we were happy to have our school performance of Annie. This musical performance was a culmination of rehearsals that started in October. Not only did our students do a fantastic job with the acting, singing and dancing, they also had a glimpse of life in 1933.
Please enjoy the slideshow of Lag B'Omer Field Day pictures at the end of the newsletter, and check back next week for pictures of the Siddur Celebration and Annie! You won't want to miss a glimpse of these joyful moments!

Ganeinu
Morah Tamara (Mrs. Tammy Reid)

We have had an amazing year in Ganeinu, but our time together is almost done. We have been introduced to all of the letters of the Alef-Bet, and have learned to sing many teffilot (Jewish Prayers) and fun Hebrew songs. Our Hebrew vocabulary is exploding! We can name our colors, count past 10, and even ask for food at lunch in Hebrew. Our Year-End Celebration will be
Tuesday, June 6, at 2:30. Feel free to drop in and watch us strut our stuff.
Middle School Math

Points, lines, line segments, angles, polygons, polyhedrons -- it is Geometry time at Silver Academy. Sixth Grade used their knowledge of polygon identification to create jewelry out of Friendly Plastic. They presented their jewelry to their moms for Mother's Day
. Middle School students also experimented with tessellations. They created both regular polygon tessellations, and MC Esher-type tessellations where they started with a 2 X 2 square.
Looking ahead, Seventh Grade will learn to calculate surface area and volume of various polyhedrons. Look for mobiles displaying their work soon.
