This was the first year we offered a Summer league here at Silver Willow.
We had eight regular participants committed to coming out at least four times in a seven week period, to enjoy the fun and camaraderie.
A total of 400 clay's were shot over 7 weeks. 200 targets on the green and 200 on the blue. Scores were posted each week online. We had a shoot off at the Duck Pond as Kevin Cole & Cale Bargen had a HOA score of 337/400. Wind up festivities followed, we were missing one participant for the picture. A Lewis payout was used to calculate the winners.
The high score for this league was Kevin Cole with a score of 338/400

Ducks Unlimited Two Man Team Shoot (August 24th)
This shoot is always a crowd favorite, as the two shooting partners are working together to hit the clay's, which is a bit unconventional in sporting clay's! Each team shot a total of 200 targets on the Blue Course and then finished off with a 50 clay "flurry" event on the Duck Pond. The weather was perfect and we had 48 teams. Ducks Unlimited awarded medals to the winners of the Lewis classes and hosted several DU raffle draws.
|
|
Congratulations to Bob Ferguson and Kevin Cole, who won HOA with a score of 190 /200 ! great team work !

The 50/50 JACKPOT POOL
Each shoot this year, we will offer two "Golden Flash Targets" with a Jackpot pool opportunity. There is an option to pay $10.00 per person to be included in this pool. There will be two hidden flash targets in each shoot, if you hit the target you will either win half the cash pot or split it with the one other shooter. The remainder of the 50/50 jackpot will stay in the pool until the next shoot and continue to build throughout the year.
The Jackpot as of the Ducks Unlimited Shoot is running at $580.00 rolling into the Buster Day Shoot September 14th

OSP Training
Wowww.....! Can't say how many times that was said over a couple days with Gil and Vicki Ash of the OSP Shooting school. Silver Willow brought them North from Houston, right here to Canada's premier sporting clays venue. The OSP school is world renowned and it was a privilege to shoot with, learn from and make friends with the Ash's - Ashes? Ashs? (Feel like I'm trying to conjugate "y'all".) Great folks!

Honey Bee Rescue at Silver Willow
|
|
S
ometimes honeybees don't make the best decisions when finding a new home. This was the case with the swarm that decided to build a hive under the cookhouse at Silver Willow. The bees had only been there for a week or so, but that was enough time for the 7,000 to 10,000 bees to build some fresh white honeycomb and start to settle in. Kurtis made the call to Stewarts Bees to relocate the hive. Various methods were utilized to try and trap the bees with minimal disruption to the bees and surrounding area. When that didn't work, Shamus had to reach in and physically removed the honeycomb and any bees hanging on, and place it in a new hive. The key was moving the queen. As long as he had the queen, the workers were going to follow.
It didn't take long to confirm the queen was secured in the new hive. Then it was a game of patience as each of the thousands of worker bees entered the hive to join her. Stewarts Bees was grateful that the owners, Don, Gwen & Josh and the staff at Silver Willow are such great stewards of the environment, in particular the honeybees, on International Honeybee Day
(August 17, 2019)
Warm Regards
Shamus & Dawn Stewart (Stewart Bees)
