The Point Hotel’s design is rooted in a style known as Coast Modern, an adapted contemporary design that has been modified for the Northwest region. The hotel takes these elements to create a unique expression based on this Coast Modern tradition, adapting key architectural ideas from the longhouse and other traditional tribal architecture with the all-cedar plank construction that is historically known to the Port Gamble S’Klallam.

Developing and Promoting Your Product
or Service to Sell More
Wednesday, December 15, 2021, 10:00 am
You’ve developed a wonderful new product or service. Great! Now you need to find customers and get them to buy it. You do that by identifying your target market, creating your value proposition, then by creating a promotional plan.
This interactive workshop helps you create draft versions of these for your business.

In this Part 1 of our Marketing workshop series, we start by helping you identify your target market. These are your best potential customers and knowing them helps you create a better product or service. It also makes all your promotional efforts more focused and effective.

We show you how to finalize the design of your product or service and make sure it’s right for your target market. Then we take you through how to create a value proposition that perfectly captures the unique value your product or service brings to your customers. Next you have to build your marketing message. That’s the information for your brochures, websites, and anything else you use to sell your product or service. We will also review a number of promotional methods and help you draft a promotional plan for your business.

This workshop focuses on hands-on exercises to help you create a target market, value proposition and promotion plan for your business.

Workshop Fee: $50

State Supreme Court Signs Off
on Redistricting Commission Maps
On Friday the state Supreme Court said that the Washington State Redistricting Commission “substantially complied” with its legal deadline to create new legislative and congressional district maps. The unanimous decision was a surprise and a dramatic turn of events, the Northwest News Network reports, since most observers had presumed that the commission missed its Nov. 15 deadline.

Still, the high court did not weigh in on the constitutionality of the maps themselves, which could still be challenged under the state Open Public Meetings Act or the federal Voting Rights Act. The Washington Observer takes a deep dive into this ruling and the maps themselves.

Democratic Leaders Call on Gov. Inslee
to Delay LTC for One Year
Three months after an AWB-led coalition made the request, Democratic leaders in the state Senate sent a letter to Gov. Jay Inslee last week, asking him to put a one-year delay on implementation of the tax for a new state-run long-term care insurance program. On Thursday, Inslee said he is looking at ways to pause the tax.

Inslee said he doesn’t have authority to take unilateral action, but he’s looking at how to pause collection of the tax to give legislators time to address issues that have been raised about the program.

In September AWB led an effort to bring together a diverse collation of labor unions, businesses, employer advocates and local governments – more than 200 signatories – to send Inslee a letter asking him to pause the program. AWB opposed changes made to the bill earlier this year and asked for the pause so problems with those changes could be addressed.

As of Dec. 2, more than 430,000 workers in Washington had applied for an exemption – well above the 300,000 expected in the fiscal note for the bill. The program had only been fully funded through 2075 even at the original level of opt-outs; the higher rate of exemptions will further impact solvency, the Washington Research Council reports.
