Established in 1924, the Kitsap Golf and Country Club is a PNW gem. Nestled among the cedars and hemlocks of the Chico Creek watershed is a beautiful golf course providing a sense of tranquility while at the same time challenging players of all skill levels. Save Our Shipments Grassroots Campaign |

NRF (National Retail Federation) has launched a grassroots campaign to raise awareness with Congress on ways to address the supply chain crisis. This campaign calls on Congress to act on a few critical pieces of legislation including:
1. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework which includes historic investments in infrastructure that will help get America’s supply chains back on track.
2. The DRIVE-Safe Act (S. 659, H.R. 1745) to help add more truck drivers to the workforce
3. The Ocean Shipping Reform Act (H.R. 4996) which addresses some of the long-standing unfair business practices by ocean carriers and terminal operators are complicating the supply chain disruption issues and adding to port congestion.

Kitsap County Redistricting Open House

As required by state statute, Kitsap County has reviewed 2020 U.S. Census data and proposed alternatives for revisions to its County Commissioner District boundaries. The district boundaries must meet several criteria including each being equal in population, using logical boundaries that do not split communities and do not disadvantage any racial or ethic group or political party.
Kitsap County will hold a public open house to present alternatives and answer questions at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 3 via Zoom at the link here. Find more information at the project website here.

Washington Bucks National Hiring Slump Trends |
|
Employers in Washington added 17,600 jobs last month, a 7.3% increase over August that observers said was only a modest increase compared with about 25,000 jobs added in both June and July. Unemployment in Washington fell to 4.9% in September, down from 5.1% in August.
Still, the state outperformed the broader U.S. economy, which saw new hiring last month drop by 47%. The tepid increase in job creation was blamed on the Covid surge led by the delta variant.

Safety Advisory
Use extra caution with darker and rainy days ahead.
It is now dark enough in the early morning and late evening that your bus operator may have difficulty seeing you alongside the road. When waiting for your bus, please stand in a well-lit spot, use a flashlight or safety flasher. You can also use your smartphone as a source of light to be visible to the operator. Laser-type lights can be a hazard to the bus operator. Please use flashlights or safety flashers and shine them on yourself or on the ground, never at the bus.
Pick up a Kitsap Transit safety flasher at the Customer Service office inside the Bremerton Transportation Center or ask your driver.
Please board the bus with caution, using handrails where available. During rainy weather, the bus floors and stairs can become slippery.

Washington Avenue NW is closed between NW Carlton Street and NW Lowell Street. Potential closure later in the week at the intersection of Washington Avenue NW and NW Carlton Street.
Crews are doing various maintenance activities at the locations listed below. Expect moderate delays between 5 and 10 minutes:

FDA Authorizes Pfizer Vaccine for Emergency Use in Children 5-11, Clinics Expected Soon |
|
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 to include children 5 through 11 years of age. The authorization was based on the FDA’s thorough and transparent evaluation of the data that included input from independent advisory committee experts who overwhelmingly voted in favor of making the vaccine available to children in this age group.
Key points for parents and caregivers:
- Effectiveness: Immune responses of children 5 through 11 years of age were comparable to those of individuals 16 through 25 years of age. In addition, the vaccine was found to be 90.7% effective in preventing COVID-19 in children 5 through 11.
- Safety: The vaccine’s safety was studied in approximately 3,100 children age 5 through 11 who received the vaccine and no serious side effects have been detected in the ongoing study.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will meet this week to discuss further clinical recommendations.
