The Coolidge Block Story

Longtime Hotel Coolidge owner David Briggs treated local history devotees to a lecture about the past, present, and future of downtown White River Junction and his "in-town country inn." "The overarching role of this piece of property has been to be dominant, dignified, and a real contributor," he said. "It has some severe limitations ... How you get the most use out of this site is the question." Presented by Hartford Historical Society.

As the worm turns

The hosts of A Couple of Flicks Tristan Goding and Nick Arvizu (aka JAM's Digital Content Manager) usually talk about bad movies. This time the cinema scholars turned their critical gaze on the sandy interstellar box-office hit Dune: Part Two and its giant sand worms. "I'm really glad I saw it on the big screeen," said Goding who dissed David Lynch's '80s take on the classic sci-fi novel—"It's really gross and complicated."

De-Lovely Gifts

The Upper Valley Music Center Faculty Showcase was about more than good music. Teachers used the benefit at Lebanon's First Congregational Church to make a big announcement—they (and others) awarded more than $30,000 in tuition assistance in 2024. Works performed included Cole Porter's "So in Love" and "It's De-Lovely", the Shaker song "Simple Gifts," and the Tony Bennett standard "Give Me a Simple Life."
