Disparities in Maternal Health
Saturday, February 24th
9 am - noon
at Hamilton Park UMC in Dallas

Why do women of color and their infants experience a disproportionately high risk of avoidable deaths? Experts will help us understand the reality of this preventable tragedy along with the policy and cultural barriers responsible. Together we’ll discuss how we can be a force for change. Supportive organizations will have displays and resources.

• Dr. Kyrah Brown, Health Equity & Community Psychologist
• Dr. Kristen Priddy, PhD, RN, CNS
• Texas State Representative Toni Rose
• Bee Moorhead, Exec. Director, Texas Impact
• Displays with many resources and care-giving nonprofits

"HEART FOR OTHERS" AWARD PRESENTED TO DANA JOBE
The Heart for Others Award is presented to Dana Jobe, our NTC UWF Program Resources officer. She is the superintendent of Universal Academy, a charter school in Irving and Coppell. Dana was chosen as an example of leading with her heart and commitment to meet the needs of the community in the area of education, and as an advocate for the equal rights of others. Bravo!
The award is presented by the JV McRaeFoundation, a 501 (C)(3) organization that serves underestimated communities with a focus on education and family stability.

MAKING THE WORLD A HOLY PLACE: METHODISTS & SOCIAL ISSUES
Monday, March 4th 11:30 am - 1 pm
Highland Park UWFaith invites you to learn about some topics of historic Methodist engagement, such as abolitionism, expanded roles for women, advocation of temperance in the use of alcohol, and improvement for the condition of workers, as well as the religious beliefs behind them. Speaker: Ted Campbell, Professor of Wesley Studies & Church History at Perkins School of Theology at SMU.
