OVR Seeking Host Sites for Job Shadows
OVR is currently having a difficult time finding host sites for students who are looking to job shadow in a career field of their choice and they are reaching out to you in the hopes you would be willing to help. A job shadow is usually around four hours long and does not need to be completed in one day. They have students that are interested in all types of employment and many need a job shadow to meet their graduation requirements. While they understand that many of you have concerns regarding Covid 19 and now may not be the right time to participate they hope you will still consider contacting them and they can add your name to the list of participants for the future.
At OVR their mission is to help their customers gain employment. There is a flyer below that can show you the benefits of hiring one of their adult customers as well. Their OJT's are a wage reimbursement program that simply helps cover the employers cost during the new hires training period. There are no strings, they are your employee and there are no other criteria. They simply reimburse the hours worked up to 480 hours. So if you are an employer who is seeking to hire now or at any time in the future, please reach out to Ken Wise and if they have qualified applicants he will help you make the connection. If you would like more information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ken at kenwise@pa.gov or at (814) 946-6996.

Overtime Rules in Pennsylvania
New overtime rules in the federal Fair Labor Standards Act take effect nationwide Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
-
Pennsylvania employers will need to follow both the new federal overtime rules and the overtime requirements of Pennsylvania's Minimum Wage Act.
-
Pennsylvania employers must follow the rule that provides the greater benefit to the employee where there are differences between the two laws.
The United States Department of Labor (USDOL) published its revised final regulations concerning its overtime requirements under the FLSA on September 24, 2019. (29 CFR 541).
The update to federal regulations includes:
- raising the "standard salary level" from the currently enforced level of $455 to $684 per week (equivalent to $35,568 per year for a full-year worker); and
- allowing employers to use nondiscretionary bonuses and incentive payments (including commissions) that are paid at least annually to satisfy up to 10 percent of the standard salary level.
