This notice is an update on the status of the Simpson Road closure between Magnolia Road and Crawford Street.
We understand the public’s frustration with the road being closed and not seeing active construction. However, we ask for patience as we wait for the shouldering work to be completed. The contractor responsible for installing the aggregate shoulder is having difficulty obtaining the trucks and truck drivers to deliver the shoulder material from the rock quarry to the project. Therefore, the project, which appears to be mostly complete, will remain closed to through traffic until the remaining work can be completed due to the drop-off at the edge of the driving lane.
This federally funded project is administered through the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to improve the Simpson Road right-of-way. KDOT has complete control over the project construction, and all phases of the construction are complete- with the exception of the aggregate shoulder.
Currently, the road closure barricades at Magnolia Road and Crawford Street close Simpson Road for all through traffic. Travelers whose destination is located within the project and emergency traffic may continue to use Crawford Street.
