Hosanna E-Update

April 6, 2016
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.
From Pastor Linda
"SIN BOLDLY!"   ~ Martin Luther
For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast. ~Ephesians 2
Dear Friends~
This week we begin a new Sunday series- accompanied by Wednesday night adult education: Saint & Sinner- Living Lutheran. What does it mean to say that we are Hosanna LUTHERAN Church? Part of the ELCA- Evangelical Lutheran Church in America? Should it matter? Does it matter in our daily living or just on Sundays?
Martin Luther was not about "making a new denomination." Martin Luther was all about RE-FORMING the existing Catholic Church. Martin Luther was not the type of person who'd say, "On the one hand, this . . . on the other hand, that. Let me just clarify what I said so nobody will take offense." If he had been, we might not have had a Reformation. The Reformation was all about reforming the church-and the good news is that the Lutheran Church continues to be a church always reforming.
Lutherans are Christians, who stress that it is through God's grace that those who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are brought into right relationship with God. We call that being justified by grace, through faith. This faith empowers us to freely express love to our neighbors- not to win God's salvation- but in thanks and praise to God who loves us unconditionally and eternally. We are evangelical in the sense that we take seriously our proclaiming of the good news of Christ's life, death on the cross and resurrection.
So what did Luther mean when he said, "Sin boldly"? Consider the quote in context.
"God does not save those who are only imaginary sinners. Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong (sin boldly), but let your trust in Christ be stronger, and rejoice in Christ who is the victor over sin, death, and the world."

See you in church  ~ Pastor Linda
