Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have been involved NBSC throughout its history, including SNDdeN as founding members and serving as presidents of the organization.
Sister Thea Bowman, FSPA, was a scholar, singer, and teacher who, through evangelization, education, and action for justice, lived her Catholic faith and African American identity. She is now a candidate for sainthood.
At a recent Georgetown University event, Sister Patty Chappell, SNDdeN was one of four distinguished panel members that discussed Sister Thea's legacy.
Sister Rita (Julie St. Francis) Murphy died on April 20, 2022 at age 91 and after 57 years as an SNDdeN. She lived her life with good humor and kindness of heart. Her funeral took place on April 25.
In her acceptance remarks, Sister Janet said, "My great hope for our Catholic schools is that they may continue to take to heart the importance of trust and to make it the foundation of creative and bold action in support of their mission." Sister Janet has served as President of Emmanuel College for the past 43 years.
