From the desk of Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powers
Dear neighbors,
Six months ago, my office launched a major initiative for our county. We established an Elder Justice Unit and launched a dedicated helpline, 513-946-SCAM.
We hosted our first training at the Green Township Senior Center, and a packed crowd heard about how the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's office would be helping them stay safe from scams and crooks.
This remains a long-term focus for my office and the attorneys who work inside it. Keeping seniors safe is something I'm committed too, especially as our population ages, and our world changes.
Six months in, my Elder Justice Unit is getting results that matter. We've taken hundreds of calls to 513-946 SCAM and continue to help area seniors every day. We've hosted over two dozen in-person trainings at senior centers, retirement homes, and community centers across the county.
And we've advocated in court for the seniors who are victims in crimes.
We won't stop.
Getting justice is critical for our community.
For now, I ask that you remember:
- Most elder abuse cases are perpetrated by someone in the victim's family
- Don't be afraid to take time to make a major financial decision
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
Always fighting for you,
Melissa Powers
