DOT PUBLISHES ADVANCE NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULEMAKING FOR ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES, FORMS AND STORAGE FOR DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING RECORDS
U.S. Department of Transportation sent this bulletin at 08/05/2022 09:20 AM EDT

Published in today’s Federal Register is an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) requesting public comment on how DOT’s regulation for conducting workplace drug and alcohol testing for the federally regulated transportation industry, 49 CFR Part 40, could be amended (1) to allow electronic signatures on documents required to be created and utilized under the regulations, (2) to be able to use electronic versions of forms, and (3) to electronically store forms.

The information received in response to this ANPRM will assist DOT in the development of proposed regulatory amendments intended to provide additional flexibility and reduced costs for the industry while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality requirements of the drug and alcohol testing regulations.

To read the Federal Register Notice in its entirety use this link https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-08-05/pdf/2022-16862.pdf

NATIONAL TRUCK DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK
SEPTEMBER 11-17, 2022
Nearly every aspect of daily life is made possible because a truck driver delivered the goods and resources people need.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an important time for America to pay respect and thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs. These 3.6 million professional men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but they also keep our highways safe.

This year's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is September 11-17, 2022.

Americans in all fifty states have taken extraordinary steps to show their appreciation for the important work that professional truck drivers have done as we navigate our way through the coronavirus pandemic. From children passing out lunches, to "I Heart Truck" signs across America's highways, the public has taken notice of the essential role truck drivers to play in their lives.

This week is a way to show appreciation to the 3.6 million professional men and women who not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but also keep our highways safe.
SAFETY SPOTLIGHT
The American Trucking Association’s National Truck Driving Championship (NTDC) is this week, August 16-19, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This competition has a long history dating back to 1937 when it was knows as the National Truck Rodeo. The NTDC competitors are made up of the winners in nine classes of competition from 50 State Trucking Associations’ Truck Driving Championships (TDC). During the TDC and NTDC competition, each driver will demonstrate their inspection and driving skills, knowledge and professionalism through a series of tests. The drivers undergo a written examination, pre-trip inspection and finally, the most visible display of ability – the skills test, where they drive the course. These annual competitions inspire thousands of drivers to operate accident-free, win locally, for a chance to compete.

When asked, professional drivers tell you they are drawn to the Championships by the spirit of competition and the prestige of being named the best of the best. It has been described as being like the Olympics, where they come to win, but revel in the camaraderie and excitement.

Representing Tennessee in the 2022 National Truck Driving Championship Competition are:

Straight Truck – Darrell Gribble from Old Dominion Freight Line
5 Axle – Thomas Seeley from Martin Brower
4 Axle – Thomas Vandivort from Martin Brower
3 Axle – Brian Turner from Old Dominion Freight Line
Sleeper Birth – Stephen McCoy from Martin Brower
Twin Trailers – Michael Young from FedEx Freight
Flatbed – Don Boone from FedEX Freight
Tank Truck – Ray Shelton from FedEX Freight
Step Van – Glenn Campbell from FedEx Ground

Congratulations to our Tennessee drivers and their companies attending this year’s competition. The TTA wishes you the best!!
Marty Pollock, Director of Safety
Tennessee Trucking Association
