Message from our Pastor, Father Phil Reifenberg

Dear Parishioners:
In his letter announcing "The Catholic Comeback” plan and the re-opening of our Churches for public Sunday Masses on Pentecost (the last weekend of May),
Archbishop Listecki counseled us to “focus our energy on preparing for a safe return.” In one sense, the “return” of which he writes is a coming back to a place very familiar to most of us: a building of brick-and-mortar, stained glass, statues, other sights and sounds, and friends and acquaintances with whom we’ve shared worship space in some cases for many years. It will be good to come home.
In another sense, however, the “return” will be to something that’s not so familiar: gathering to worship in a way that respects safe social distancing.

Until further notice, people who have a fever or are experiencing flu-like symptoms should not attempt coming to Mass. Moreover, people over the age of 65 and those with compromised auto-immune systems and/or pre-existing health issues that render them more susceptible to infections or respiratory difficulties should consider staying away, as well. The Archbishop has extended his dispensation to all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, no matter their age, from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass through Sunday, July 5th.

|
Father Phil continues to offer Mass privately for our requested intentions. Please keep our parish Mass Intentions in your daily prayers as well.
Contact the Parish Office at 892-4006 to request a Mass Intention or request to
attend a scheduled Mass.

Parish Finances
Thank you for your continued and generous support. As expected, our April parishioner contributions are 21% lower as compared to April 2019. “Offertory,” which constitutes the lose collection at Mass, is negligible. We appreciate any and all support.

Julia is Heading Home!
Julia Greenwood, our Echo apprentice, is heading back home to New Jersey (and hopefully to Notre Dame at some point) for the summer. She will be continuing her studies throughout the summer. Julia will return to SJB in mid August. We wish her, and all the Echo apprentices, a restful, spiritual and healthy summer.

Be it through traditional learning or virtual learning, St. John the Baptist School teachers and staff are very dedicated to providing a quality faith-centered education. There have been several beneficial additions to academic programming over the past several years. Project Lead the Way, Guided Reading resources and Exploratory Class opportunities are just a few of the additions that have been added. From becoming a Project Lead the Way school increasing in the number of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities, to adding a guided reading resource area to the library, to providing for middle school exploratory class opportunities, students' academic needs are met at the same time that they are being molded into becoming disciples of Christ. St. John the Baptist School has provided and will continue to provide an environment that addresses a variety of learning styles, interests, and needs.

A Beautiful May Crowning
As you know, due to Covid-19, First Eucharist has been postponed. However, last week our second-graders participated in a beautiful May Crowning while still maintaining social distancing. Our Student Council President, Helena Erdly, did the honors of crowning Mary. It was so nice to see the students even if from afar participating in such a lovely ritual of honoring Mary. Prayers for our students, teachers, and staff to have faith and to stay connected to God as they
finish the 2019-2020 school year remotely, and
continue to navigate through these unprecedented times.
