Meet the Johnny Appleseed of Dupont
Stephan Dix came to Dupont in 1987 from Bath, England. Starting in 2003, accompanied by two Dupont neighbors, Stephan began to plant fruit trees every Arbor Day. This "Guerilla Orchard" was designed to provide shade for the dog owners, fertilizer for the trees from their dogs, and fresh fruit for people to pick.

Over the years this committed group has planted plum, peach, apricot, pear, fig and even cherry trees - all on a small triangular piece of land at the intersection of T and 19th Street and Florida Avenue.

The trees and the park are lovingly cared for. One may look from time to time on a summer’s day for a box of fruit under the trees. They are free, of course!

We encourage you to visit the orchard and provide the same tender care as its founders – as enticing as the trees may be, please avoid climbing the delicate branches and in the spirit of the garden - take what you need and leave what you can so we can all enjoy!

Thank you Stephan and friends for adding to the magic of living in Dupont!
