The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a significant toll on communities across the world and has had a devastating effect on Travel & Tourism.

For 30 years, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has been quantifying the economic impact of Travel & Tourism, highlighting the importance of the sector to the global economy.

The 2021 annual research which covers 185 countries and economies, and 25 regions of the world, reveals the full extent and significance of the COVID-19 crisis to the sector in 2020.

According to the latest edition of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, an estimated 54 million tourists crossed international borders in July 2021, down 67% from the same month in 2019, but the strongest results since April 2020.

This compares to an estimated 34 million international arrivals recorded in July 2020, though well below the 164 million figure recorded in 2019.

Remember that members can look for professional contacts to do business through the Global Database that is available on the Skål website. To access the Database, log on to the Skål International website and enter the private Members' area. There, you will be able to search by company, tourism sector, club, etc.

In this article we will discover the events of the history of our organisation during the difficult year 1939, with the Honorary President Antonio García del Valle.

"On 1 February, the 'Berliner Beobachter', the mouthpiece of the Nazi government, and the ‘Berliner Borsen-Zeitung’ spoke of the IKT and announced that Skål was run by Jews and Freemasons. Accusation refuted by R. Waugh and H. Ostelius by circular letter: "In view of the attacks we have received, please inform your members of the real situation and leave them free to make a fair decision. Skål being a non-political association, we would ask the entire Steering Committee not to speak publicly on these matters".
