Ski Areas are Prepping for the Season

Big things are happening in the mountains this winter. Across New Hampshire, ski areas have been busy all summer getting ready to make the 2025–26 season one to remember. Crews have been upgrading lifts, improving snowmaking systems, and making lodge and base area improvements. Whether it’s faster rides uphill or a more comfortable place to warm up between runs, these improvements are all about enhancing the skier and rider experience.

A major focus this year is snowmaking and sustainability. New technology is helping resorts produce more snow with less energy, and several areas made big investments this summer to boost efficiency. Loon Mountain Resort doubled its snowmaking capacity on North Peak, Bretton Woods upgraded pipelines and tower guns, and Gunstock Mountain Resort added new HKD Impulse guns and Klik hydrants. Ragged Mountain Resort, Tenney Mountain, Jackson XC, and Great Glen Trails also expanded their systems to ensure great coverage even in lighter snow years.

Resorts are also cutting energy use in other ways, from Waterville Valley and Crotched Mountain's new, energy-efficient LED lighting for night skiing to Loon Mountain Resort and Cranmore Mountain’s adoption of electric PistenBully groomers that reduce emissions and noise. Loon has even added more EVs to its fleet, bringing them to five EVs in total - the most of any ski resort in the East.

Women's Clinics

Several New Hampshire ski areas are offering women’s programs and events for the 25/26 season designed to build confidence and improve skills surrounded by like-minded women of all abilities. From Crotched Mountain’s five-week Her Turn program to Mount Sunapee’s returning Women’s Workshop and Pat’s Peak’s popular WOW Wednesdays, there are plenty of ways to learn and connect this winter.

You’ll also find clinics at Whaleback Ski Area, McIntyre Ski Area, and Great Glen Trails where the Women’s Winter Escape event combines ski lessons, snowshoeing, yoga, and more for a fun, full-day experience.

Employee Spotlight: Khara Benoit, Whaleback Mountain

We’re highlighting Khara Benoit, who has been part of the Whaleback Mountain team for the past four years. As General Manager, Khara enjoys the variety of guests she gets to meet both on and off the snow, the strong sense of community, and the chance to watch her daughter, Summit, grow up on the mountain.

When she’s not working, Khara loves exploring the trees, alpine racing, and slope style competitions.

Her path into the ski industry started young, growing up in her grandfather’s ski shop. From there, her passion for alpine racing led her to coaching, and ultimately to her leadership role in the ski industry today.
