Nordic Ski Gear Review with Max

In the world of cross country skiing, innovation is constant. This model year, both Start and Fischer have made noteworthy innovations in their race models.

New from Start this year is the Race Ultra ski pole, which improves upon the previous year’s high performance racing pole, the Race 1.0 pole. The Race Ultra pole keeps Start's industry-leading design of reducing carbon layering at the tip of the pole, which serves to save precious ounces without compromising either stiffness or durability.

The Race Ultra is also made with Start’s new High Modulus Carbon, meaning this new pole is both 18% lighter AND 18% stiffer, as compared to the previous generation. This means that skiers will experience more efficient energy transfer during the power phase of their stroke and a more natural swing as the pole returns to their hand.
Another exciting item this season is Fischer’s SpeedMax 3D ski (pictured left), which is offered in skate, classic, and Twin Skin. These skis feature a gliding sidewall, which helps minimize on-snow friction. The ability to wax the sidewall of the ski offers a new level up in gliding performance, unmatched by competitors.

Moreover, the SpeedMax 3D features Cold-Case Bonding, maximizing the ski’s ability to hold wax and henceforth speed, and an Air Core Carbon core, which contains ~80% air, content with highly modular carbon fibers, reducing weight to an incredible 1030g (2.27lbs) per ski (skate, 186cm). The skate version also features the cutout tip, decreasing swing weight an optimizing efficiency, a standard across Fischer performance racing skis.

Join Lapham Peak Ski Club

The club's mission is to promote nordic skiing by providing opportunities for adults to learn and train together and to give back to the nordic ski community. The funds we raise also help to support a new generation of skiers through funds that go to Peak Nordic as well as ensuring that there is enough snow to ski on by helping to fund the work of Lapham Peak Friends Snowmaking.

Lapham Peak Ski Club & Bicycle Doctor will be hosting a movie night presentation of “The Last King,” the story on which the Birkebeiner ski marathon is based. In the spirit of safety and social distancing please bring your own chair for the patio.
