Self Defense Tip of the Week
The knife attack is very up close and personal. As they say, the knife is meant to be felt, never seen. When you encounter an aggressive person you really don't know their ability, intent or even their skill level. None of this comes out until the attack happens.

A few things you must learn that will help you stay alive in a possible knife encounter: be aware of your surroundings; know the location and escape routes (exits); what is in your environment that can be used as an improvised weapon to assist in your defense; watching body language; keeping distance; and above all watch their hands!

Most importantly learning how to defend a knife attack through technique, principles of defending the attack... becoming your own personal protector!

Firearms Training Tip of the Week
Handgun Retention

What is handgun retention?... It is knowing that no matter where you are there is always a handgun in play... and that handgun is yours.

Most handgun disarms or attempts happen when the person is taken by surprise from behind or the attack from the front is preceded by vicious strikes in order to take you off balance or to the ground and get a hand on your handgun.

During an attack a person experiences a delay in his/her response due to the high stress level. Realistic training is a must. Here is a drill to test your retention skills.

1.you and your partner are geared up properly.
2.use a "trainers gun" for safety **NEVER USE A LIVE FIREARM!!!!!
3.have your partner attempt to get your handgun as he is throwing punches or try to take you down to the ground. Start off slow then ramp it up to real time.

Now, be honest with yourself. How did you do? This was a planned drill imagine now if you are taken by surprise... then what?

Continuous training in a realistic atmosphere is what pays off in the end. Being a responsible concealed carry person doesn't mean just being able to shoot. It also requires retaining your handgun in any type of encounter.

Fitness Tip of the Week

Heathy Nutrient Rich Lifestyle

The single most important variable in changing body composition is nutrition. A large percentage of your results are going to come from your nutrition choices. Some diets aren’t sustainable and lead to a poor relationship with food and your body image. The main focus is to tailor a nutrition plan for you that is sustainable, enjoyable and effective.

Sustainable: Continued improvement in your body composition without drastic highs and lows.

Enjoyable: Living a life where you are allowed an occasional piece of cake or cookie.

Effective: A lifestyle where consistency and patience are a top priority. Proper nutrition will have positive results both on your physical appearance and your inner-being: improvement on your brain function, more energy, overall improvement on your quality of life, and your workouts will be much more satisfying!

Commit to changing the way you eat and view food. Patience and consistency will get you to where you want to be!   Remember... you can't out-train your diet!!!
