April 2015

So often, people come to me looking for answers to skin issues, completely frustrated and defeated, because they have been told that there is nothing that can be done. They have tried every prescription and over-the-counter product, have spent hundreds of dollars on products, and nothing is working. Please, don't give up. Just because you have tried "everything," it doesn't mean that there is no help or no answer for you.

All you have to do is look to nature for the answers. There is a solution to every problem in nature. This is why I have put my complete trust in the natural gifts that come straight from the earth. We are organic (or at least, are meant to be organic). But we have polluted our bodies and our earth with man made chemicals and harmful toxins. We can not thrive this way. We are undermining our own progress.

When we eat processed food, anti-biotic laced and factory raised meats, and use cleaning and personal care products that contain high levels of toxins, we are polluting our bodies to the point that they can not function properly.

Bad news: There is no magic pill or quick fix.

Good news: Nature is very forgiving.

There is always a solution and it is never too late.

Skin care is not a luxury. It is a matter of health and you have complete control.

Become a label reader. The fewer ingredients the better it is for you. Even if something says natural or organic on the front of a label do not take it at face value. Read the ingredients on the back of the product. If it contains ingredients you don't recognize and can't pronounce, it probably is not a good idea to purchase or consume the product.

When we consume toxic products, our bodies don't know how to process these chemicals because they do not recognize them. So, our body stores them and they build up in our systems and can cause serious problems.

When we use natural and organic products, our bodies recognize the ingredients and know exactly how to process them, because, that is how nature works. And so, often, we see dramatic results.

Your skin health is not a cosmetic issue. It is a health issue. It is not difficult and should not be expensive. But, it is a commitment. And, you are so worth it!

What's going on at Lissa's Natural Skin Care?

For a vey long time, I have been able to make products in between scheduled clients. But, I am happy to say that, at this point, I am so busy taking care of clients that I have no time in between clients to make product.
I have also had to schedule retail time in between scheduled appointments so that clients can come in to purchase product.
Just for the record, thanks for your patience. Unfortunately, because I am only one person, wearing many hats, and I can not extend my hours to accommodate the increased work load, Lissa's Natural Skin Care will be opened on Saturdays from noon to 8:00 p.m., for retail only. So, please stop in to see me. No doubt I will be busy making products and will be happy to help you with products and questions.

Also, please return empty bottles to receive $1.00 per bottle off of the price of your next product purchase.

New products available include:
Handmade Organic bar soaps for shower and bath in a variety of styles and scents - $3.00 - $6.00
Coconut Cleansing bars - a soap-free cleanser for sensitive skin - $6.00 for a package of 3
Handmade mineral makeup foundation in a wide variety of colors - $18.00
Mineral blush - $10

There will be a lot of new products during spring and summer that will only be available at the shop. Schedule your next appointment and come in to see what's new on the shelves at Lissa's Natural Skin Care.

A Note about online booking

If you would like to book your appointments online at lissabell.skincaretherapy.net, please allow 30-60 minutes between your appointment and the appointment immediately following. If you are booking a 60 minute service, please allow me an hour between appointments so that I have time to answer any questions, address concerns, or to provide client and product consultation. If you are booking a 90 minute service, please allow for 30 minutes between appointments.

I pride myself on taking time with each individual client to address specific needs. If appointments are booked back-to-back, with no down-time, I will be rushing you out the door so that I can prepare for my next client. I do not want my clients to feel as if they are on an assembly line. You are all very important to me and I need the time to treat you as such.

1 oz. organic or raw cacao powder
1 1/4 oz. dried peppermint (or several opened peppermint tea bags)
3 1/2-5 fl. oz. virgin coconut oil

Flower Fairy Oil

Shelf-life: 6 months

Skin types: suitable for all

1 pint organic cold-pressed sunflower or almond oil.

Fresh-scented flowers.

Gather scented blooms (she suggests hyacinth, jonquil, lilac and jasmine, but roses and other fragrant flowers will work just as well).

Strip the plants of any leaves and stems and place the flowers in a big glass jar.

Use a single flower species.

Pour the oil on so that it covers the blossoms and place the jar in a warm place.

Shake jar every day.

Strain plant material from the oil and repeat the process with fresh flowers every four or five days.

After two weeks it should be a gorgeous scented oil.

Continue the process for a further two weeks to make it even stronger if desired. Once scented enough, strain the oil through a sieve.

Strain again through a muslin-lined sieve. Using a funnel, pour the oil into a bottle.

To use:

Massage into damp skin after a bath or shower and leave to sink in for a few minutes before dressing. Use daily for soft skin.

Vanilla Whip

Shelf-life: 6 months

Skin types: suitable for all

1 vanilla pod

3 1/2 oz. organic cocoa butter

4 1/2 fl. oz. cold-pressed coconut oil

Split the vanilla pod lengthways and scrape the seeds  into a jam jar.

Add the coconut oil and the scrape out shell.

Leave to infuse for a week in a warm place.

Chop the cocoa butter and start to melt in the top of a double boiler.

Strain the vanilla oil through a sieve and add to melting cocoa butter.

Once the blend is thoroughly melted, remove from heat and whisk while cooling until it is a creamy scented potion.

Use a palette knife to fill up a pretty jar with this gorgeous vanilla whip
