Puppy left starving on the side of the road. Our report stated "skin and bones, and unable to lift her head."

Late Sunday night, our Animal Control Division responded to a call about a puppy left on the side of the road. We responded to the call and took custody of an emaciated 8-week-old puppy that was abandoned in the Myrtle Avenue area in Neptune - and what we saw was beyond words. Skin and bones, labored breathing, and unable to lift her head, a puppy we've named "Matilda" was on the brink of death.

Still in critical condition..

We rushed her to our shelter for urgent medical care, she was shaking and whimpering and we weren't sure she was going to make it. We wrapped Matilda in warm blankets and began IV fluids to try and give this tiny girl some life. Matilda has been minimally responsive to our care, and she's still in critical condition but we're doing our absolute best to keep her comfortable. We're looking for anyone who may have information on Matilda, or where she came from so that we can investigate this cruel act.

Please call our Humane Law Enforcement Division at 732-440-1539 if you can provide any details.

We rely on donations to help animals like Matilda!

Matilda has a long road ahead, and donations to our organization help us care for those abandoned, neglected and abused animals who need our help. Please consider making a contribution to her care, and to support the thousands of other animals we save every year ❤
