Clean Up Your Corner of Skokie!

Looking for a fun volunteer opportunity this spring? The Village's Clean Green litter pickup program is great for all ages and group sizes!


How it works: Assemble a group of friends or neighbors, tell us your preferred Skokie clean-up location (or have one assigned to you), and select a date between March 18 and April 19. The Village will provide a clean-up kit for your group to pick up.


Register: Complete the online registration form or call Skokie Public Works at 847-933-8427. All volunteers must also complete the online waiver.

Skokie Student Artists SOAR!


Hundreds of Skokie students, educators, families and officials gathered at Oakton College on Monday evening to view and celebrate exceptional creative works by student artists in preschool through 8th grade!


Plan your visit: The Fine Arts Commission’s Students’ Outstanding Artist Recognition exhibit is on display in the atrium lobby at Oakton College, 7701 Lincoln Ave., through March 31. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Last Call: Refuse Truck Youth Art Contest


Skokie students in grades 5-12 are invited to submit their original artwork to be displayed on the Village’s new refuse truck!


Submit your art: Share your design by completing the online form by Sunday, March 17.


Contest theme: Art should reflect the theme, “Reducing Waste,” to call attention to the Village’s Environmental Sustainability Plan goal of reducing landfill waste community-wide.

Coming Soon: The Henry at Harms Woods

 

Tucker Development and Wingspan Development Group are constructing a new mixed-use development at 5400 Old Orchard Road (the site of the former Portland Cement Association).


What’s coming: The project includes 245 multi-family units, 49 townhomes, and approximately 13,000 square feet of commercial space. Thirteen units will be leased at rents affordable at 100 percent of Area Median Income.


Status: The project has received all necessary permits and is commencing construction.

Two Parking Reminders

Street Sweeping Underway


Skokie Public Works has begun 2024 street sweeping operations. 


Help sweepers do their job: Please move your vehicle when sweeping is planned for your block.


On-Street Parking During Ramadan


Observed by Muslims worldwide, Ramadan began on March 10 and will end the evening of April 9. The Village reminds residents and local businesses that there may be limited on-street parking availability during peak worship times near mosques in Skokie during the 30-day holiday.

Reminder: Old Orchard Road and Oakton Bridge Improvements


This month, work is commencing on two major roadway projects in Skokie.


Oakton Bridge: IDOT is completing a phased replacement of the Oakton Street bridge over the Edens Expressway. Improvements include a new 10-foot-wide shared-use path, accessibility improvements, and enhanced pedestrian protections.


Old Orchard Road: Cook County is completing major roadway improvements on Old Orchard Road from Woods Drive to Skokie Boulevard. Improvements include a new multi-use path, new turn lanes at the I-94 eastbound ramp, and more.
