Village Board Adopts Implementation Plan for Electoral Referendums

On Monday evening, the Skokie Village Board of Trustees approved an implementation plan for three citizen-initiated electoral referendums passed by voters in November 2022.

What it means:

  • Four election districts (PDF) now exist. One trustee will be elected by voters from each of the Village’s four districts and two trustees will be elected at-large.
  • Municipal elections will occur every two years instead of every four years, with half of the Board elected at a time
  • Elections will be nonpartisan

What’s next: The changes will be in effect for the February/April 2025 Election.

It’s National Flu Vaccination Week!

Have you had your flu shot yet? Protect yourself from severe illness this flu season by getting vaccinated.

Get your shot: Contact your primary healthcare provider, visit vaccines.gov, or explore Skokie Health and Human Services vaccination services.

Don’t forget: Hospitalizations from RSV and COVID-19 have also increased across Illinois. Skokie Health and Human Services (SHHS) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) urge residents to receive the latest available vaccinations.

Fall Leaf Collection Wrapping Up Soon

With just a few leaves still clinging to trees, the Village’s Public Works Department will soon conclude its fall leaf collection program.

Raking made easy: Instead of bagging leaves in landscape bags, rake leaves into the street next to the curb in front of your home. Crews anticipate collecting leaves through the week of December 11-15, weather permitting. Please do not rake leaves into the street after next week. Review fall leaf collection guidelines.

Parking tip: Avoid parking your vehicle on or near leaf piles so that crews can access and remove them.

As seen on Dolphin News Network: Student reporters from Devonshire School recently spoke with Public Works Operations Manager Brad Maggi about the Village’s leaf collection efforts. Watch their report.

Two Winter Reminders

With the cold weather season upon us, here are two quick reminders regarding property maintenance.

Heating: Landlords, property owners and condo associations must keep all habitable rooms at a minimum temperature of 68 degrees, per International Property Maintenance Code. Need to report an issue? Contact the Village at 847-933-8224.

Snow Removal: Be a good neighbor! Clear snow from driveways, sidewalks and staircases adjacent to and on your property. Need a hand? The Village’s TeenLink program connects residents with teens who are available for hire to do the work.
