Beginner Aqua has been having so much fun skating together, even in the pouring rain at Wollman Rink! They got to participate in their first competition at Terry Connors and were thrilled with the experience. The next day, they got right back into costume and performed at the Skating Club of NY World Ice Day Show at Sky Rink in NYC. They cannot wait to continue to improve their routine and are looking forward to their next competition in January.

Beginner Onyx
Our Skyliners Beginner Onyx line skated their hearts out and got a silver medal at the Terry Connors Open this month. When they weren’t performing, they enjoyed cheering for the other Skyliners lines!

Beginner Sapphire
At 5:00pm on November 19th, it was Beginner Sapphire’s moment to shine! It was the first time for the majority of the line to perform in the Boston Synchronized Skating Classic. After the success of earning a silver medal a week ago in NJ, the budding skaters were inspired and further honed their techniques. As the music sounded, Beginner Sapphire wiggled, pumped, stroked, chassed, intersected, circled and wheeled. With elegance and confidence, they seamlessly showcased one move after another and highlighted the spirits of the songs 'Kings and Queens’ and ‘Dancing Queens’. What an exquisite joy to watch these little queens’ spectacular performance on ice! Let’s raise a toast to celebrate the gold medal! They also secured another silver medal at Terry Conners Open on 12/3.

Beginner Black
Our line has grown together in numerous ways since pep rally. The majority of the skaters’ first ever synchro competition was at the Essex Classic last month, at which they earned a bronze medal! Another first for many, was our overnight competition trip in Norwood, MA for the Boston Synchronized Skating Classic. The line worked extremely hard to prepare for both competitive skates! Our skaters demonstrated focus and resilience beyond their years when a few line members were sick and could not travel to Boston. Despite having to make some on ice choreography adjustments, our skaters had a beautiful and energetic performance, winning the gold medal! Following Thanksgiving break, the skaters also competed at the Terry Connors Open, one of our favorite local competitions in Stamford CT. The line had a strong performance and earned the pewter medal.
We are all looking forward to more on and off ice fun in the weeks ahead, and as we move into 2023. We have learned one thing - this line loves is getting totally glammed up on competition day. We may even have a few aspiring makeup artists, as you’ll see in some of our photos! Coaches Megan, Shannon, and Avidan are so proud of the focus, leadership, and enthusiasm our line has shown thus far!

Beginner Blue
Beginner Blue has had an exciting month and is really hitting their stride and coming together as a line! These little pirates have been working so hard to perfect their routine on and off the ice - and it shows! These skaters shined bright as they competed in the Essex Synchro Classic on November 12th, their first competition of the season! They had a wonderful performance and earned a gold medal in the Aspire Beginner group. It was right onto their next competition, Boston Classic, on November 18th. These skaters had such a fun and exciting weekend, putting their all into their performance in front of a large crowd. Their hard work earned them a gold medal in the Aspire Beginner Group B. After the excitement of the first two competitions, it was onto Terry Conners Open on December 3rd where Beginner Blue earned their third gold medal in Aspire Beginner Group B. It has also been amazing to watch our families come together in support of these dedicated skaters. With three competitions completed, Beginner Blue will be practicing for their next big competition, SCNY Synchro, in January! They can’t wait! Beginner Blue will continue to polish their skills and improve their moves during their weekly practices. Through hard work and teamwork, this season is off to a great start and we are excited to see what 2023 has in store! We wish all of our families, coaches and line moms a happy holiday season! Go Beginner Blue!

PreJuvenile Black
With every new synchro season, a new line is formed. A melting pot of new skaters and old friends. There are indescribable feelings of anticipation for a successful and fun season and excitement for a new program. The PreJuvenile Black line certainly felt this! The girls worked hard and had so much fun sharpening their skating skills and forming an incredible line! As a result of their hard and fun work, they have won 1st place and gold medals for all their competitions thus far. They are so excited and well prepared for the upcoming Colonial Classic and Eastern Sectionals!

PreJuvenile Blue
PreJuvenile Blue is rocking through the season! We’ve had outstanding performances at all three competitions, dancing through the program and winking at the judges. So far this season we've won one gold and two silver medals! A highlight for our girls is when they can hear their Skyliners friends in the stands cheering loudly and singing along. Way to show team spirit! At our next competition, we hope more of you will feel inspired to sing along! Hey Skyliners, do you love Rock and Roll?

Juvenile
Juvie has been climbing like a skyscraper this fall! They brought their high energy NYC program to Essex, NJ for their November exhibition. Working hard on and off the ice, they prepared for the Boston Classic and brought home a pewter medal. Like NYC, this line is fun and they put in the work. They continued to improve and refine their program and were thrilled to place 4th and earn another Pewter medal among 11 highly competitive lines at the Porter Classic in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the start of December! They enjoyed a relaxing team dinner together at Porter, followed by a fun night of karaoke in their PJs, with lots of laughter and popcorn. Up next is December Boot Camp and working hard for their next competition in Boston at Colonials in January. Let's go NEW YORK, NEW YORK! Happy Holidays to all!

Intermediate
by Leah Waddle
After flying into Detroit, we had two on-ice practices, working on different
elements of the program that needed to be fixed. The next day, we had Official Practice,
as well as another practice to work on perfecting the comments that were made by the
technical panel. We had the pleasure of cheering on our Juvenile and Novice lines when
they competed. Congratulations Novice and Juvie on the great performances! On the
night before competition day, we had a team bonding activity which was making
gingerbread houses! Each of us teamed up into groups to help decorate while watching
the competitions live stream of other divisions skating. On the day of the competition,
we put out a clean skate which earned us a 2nd place finish! After competing, we
headed to the University of Michigan campus, purchasing souvenirs and boba tea. We are
very proud of our performance and can’t wait to keep on working hard for the next
competition. See you at Colonials!

Novice
by Olivia Luyando
Anaheim
Not even two weeks after Pep Rally, it was already time for our first competition! Talk about a speedy start to the season. Novice’s excitement was palpable as we streamed into JFK bright and early on Thursday morning. Although it meant sacrificing some of our sleep, we were all ready to head on over to Cali! After the five hour plane trip, which was filled with movie watching, bonding, and lots of laughs, we got on the bus to go to our first practice. Even though we were all feeling a little bogged down from the plane flight, we still managed to have a fantastic practice! After it ended, we headed over to the hotel and got settled in. During our drive to and from the rink, we were able to take in the beautiful views California had to offer. We spotted a couple of In-and-Outs, a mountainous backdrop, and lots of palm trees. Needless to say, it was definitely a unique sight. After winding down for the night, we were all ready to go to sleep, especially considering the time change.
The following day, we woke up early for a morning practice! With our competition the next day, we knew we had to do the best we could and make the most out of the long practice, and we most certainly did. We were rewarded with a trip to Downtown Disney, where we got to hang out for a couple of hours. We grabbed smoothies, Starbucks, and even a ginormous milkshake to drink as we made our way through several of the stores. The Disney Shop was a huge hit, with many of us emerging from it wearing Disney ears, sweatshirts, “munchlings” in tow, and magnetic Remies on our shoulders (as in the rat from Ratatouille). This was definitely a highlight of the trip, and it was immediately followed up by another: the infamous In-and-Out trip! Many of us had never been to the burger place before so we were especially excited to partake in this Anaheim tradition. Once we got there, we gathered round the tables and ate our burgers and fries while proudly wearing our new In-and-Out hats. After finishing up our lunch, we headed back to the hotel for some much needed downtime. We then made our way over to the rink to watch Junior and Senior perform their short programs. It was so much fun getting to cheer them on and getting to see some of the other lines’ programs! We finished off the night with a quick practice before heading back to the hotel to get to bed. We definitely needed a good night’s sleep to prepare for the following day.
The next morning we woke up early to get our hair ready and competition makeup on. We then ate a quick breakfast before heading over to the rink. After one last good practice, we were feeling ready to compete! We had a little bit of time before we had to head over to the locker room, so we used it to get warmed up, stretch, and to play some fun games! Before we knew it, the time to head over to the locker room and get ready to get on the ice had finally come. We went through some pre-competition rituals and got hyped up in the locker room before heading onto the ice. Although we didn’t have our best skate, we still managed to get a great score and ended up in first place! We celebrated our win with Chick-fil-a before heading back to the rink to watch Junior and Senior’s long program. Afterwards, we headed over to the airport to get ready for the flight home. Overall, we all had a great time in Cali, and were looking forward to improving at our next competition in Boston!
Boston
A week later and we were back at it again. Sky Novice was pumped for our second competition of the season! We started it off by heading up to Boston via bus, where we exchanged Secret Skater gifts and relaxed. After arriving at the hotel a couple of hours later, we got settled in and prepared for the next day. On Friday we got to sleep in before having a nice long practice. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and caught up on some homework before heading to a suite to watch a movie and enjoy dinner together. We soon dispersed to go to our own rooms, knowing we needed to get a good night's sleep before competition day! The next morning we woke up early and had a quick unofficial practice before our Official Practice, which went really well! We were definitely feeling ready for later on. Afterwards we went back to the hotel to eat some breakfast before taking time to relax and catch up on sleep. We rounded off our down time by touching up our makeup which most of us had done sometime during the early hours of 4-5 that morning, so needless to say it definitely needed some fixing. Before we knew it it was time to go to the rink. Although we were feeling a little nervous, we were excited to compete again and improve our score from the last competition! The time for our warm up went by quickly and the time to compete was finally upon us. We did our pre-competition rituals in the locker room before heading out onto the ice. We are proud to say we had an amazing skate! There were many smiles and tears in the kiss and cry as our score was announced. We finished off the night by cheering on Beginner Sapphire, Junior, and Senior before heading home with our families. We were delighted to see our improvement and were eager to get back to practice so that we could work on improving even more before Porter!

Junior
by Alissa Lopez
With two competitions behind us, the Junior Line is already anticipating a redemption in the next competition. As a line, we have been attacking the past practices, and have been anxious to prove ourselves in the upcoming competitions.
For the Boston Classic, we left on Wednesday night, and after meeting with the line we started the long bus ride to Boston, Massachusetts, ready to take on anything in our path. When we arrived at the hotel, we were so ready to get to bed after a long bus ride, and resting after sitting for hours was incredibly relaxing. On one of the bus rides to the practice rinks, we had the unique experience to meet girls from the Juvenile line, learn more about them and reminisce if we were on the same line at one point in our lives. The Juvie girls were so excited to be there, and learning how each girl was dealing with the competition was truly inspiring, as some of them were in Boston for the first time and not showing any fear. On the day of competing the Short program we got in one last practice session just to make sure everything was secure. We had been so excited, with the feeling of electricity in our veins keeping us going while getting our hair and makeup done. That night, the cheers of the crowd brought us into the moment, and we skated an amazing short program to the “Impossible Dream”. The feeling of the program was phenomenal, and the near three minute program felt as if it was two seconds long. We were completely overjoyed when we found out we placed first in the short program, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience it gave us, including the ice cream night after! The next day we smoothed out a few cracks we could’ve found during the Official Practice, the line returned to the rink in the evening with lots of energy. We felt ready to take this on, so we warmed up, huddled together to pump each other up, put on our dresses and skates, and had a final Tik Toc before heading into the rink. Even after having a bit of a rough start to the program with finding crystals on the ice, we poured our hearts out into the “Legends” program, and felt content as we walked off the ice. We ended up placing second in the overall score, with a margin of less than a point! The competition was a rush of emotions, and with these practices getting us ready for the upcoming competitions, we feel a fire in our hearts and are ready to take on anything that's in our way. Go Skyliners!

Senior
by Leatrice Bulls
We are so excited to have kicked off our competition season with back to back weekends at the Synchro Fall Classic and Boston Synchronized Skating Classic! With a handful of teammates new to the Senior division, we were eager to come together and debut programs we were proud of. Prior to our short program, we brushed up on a fun and sassy dance Coach Nicole taught us at the beginning of our season to “Womanizer” by Britney Spears; the dance helped us get into character and embody the confidence and ostentatious energy that Britney exudes every time she takes the stage. After two clean performances and a bronze medal, we left California with our first competition under our belts and a clear vision of where we shined and where we wanted to continue to grow throughout the season based on the judges’ feedback. Leading up to Boston, we trained hard, pushing ourselves and each other to tap into our real potential as a unit. In our practices, we created a sort of synergy that was so energizing even in tiring moments. The line showed up for each other and took the ice on Saturday proud of the work we put in and ready to put on a show with our short program. That night, after a motivating line meeting with Coach Josh and our traditional short program night sundaes, we went to bed focused and ready for the long program. In our long skate, we were most proud of our huge improvements made in the group lift element, earning the highest level call and an overall silver medal. After awards, many of us headed home to our families to celebrate Thanksgiving. The Senior Line is thankful for the sport we love bringing us together, our dedicated coaches, our amazing line moms, and all of our family and friends that support us endlessly. We cannot wait for our international season to kick off in Neuchâtel, Switzerland in January and to continue in Milan, Italy in February!

Skyliners was established in 2001 by a group of parents who wanted to create the most competitive synchronized skating club in the tri-state area. In that first year, the team had three lines - Preliminary, Juvenile and Intermediate. Twenty-two years later, Skyliners has grown into one of the top synchronized skating teams in the country, now 14 lines and 265+ skaters strong. While the majority of the skaters reside in the tri-state area, we also have had skaters from Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. Our resume of achievements includes 33 Eastern championships, 16 National championships, 8 International gold medals, and making history with one bronze and two Junior Worlds Silver medals.
