Note From Skyline Village Chicago Board | |
|
Dear Friends,
Since first signed into law in 1965, the Older Americans Act (OAA) has provided vital services to millions of older Americans in all 56 states and territories. The OAA currently supports a wide array of programs and services, including information and referral, community and home-delivered meals, health and wellness programs, in-home care, transportation, elder abuse prevention, caregiver support and adult day care. A new program,”Enhancing Access to Assistive Technology” will help with a common problem: seek telephones, computers and other technology systems for those who find devices aimed at younger people impossible to use. This program may allow some to put off using formal long-term care services, because they will have an easier time talking to their relatives, friends, and health care providers without help from others. Sound like a good idea? We think so too. Stand Up for Older Adults - Help Protect the Older Americans Act!

If you've had the great fortune of joining the summer Beatles Sing Alongs in Lake Shore Park or the Holiday Sing Alongs at 900 North Michigan, you have experienced our talented volunteer maestro, Curtis Powell. We are profoundly grateful to Curt for leading us in song and hoopla over the past twenty years.
Curt, a Chicago creative champion, appears in Antigone at the Athenaeum Center March 7-April 6. Let's go cheer him on, in gratitude for the gifts he's brought us all these years!
Playwright, composer, actor, and author, Curtis Powell is thrilled to be returning to the Athenaeum stage after his recent performance in Dante 360. Curtis received his MA from Northwestern University in Interpretation/Performance Studies where he studied acting with Frank Galati and Shakespeare with Wallace Bacon. He has composed six full-length musicals, four produced in Chicago, written several plays as a Chicago Dramatists network playwright, and created sound designs for a wide variety of productions in Chicago, New York, Texas, Iowa, California, and D.C. Curtis is an active member of the Dramatists Guild of America and lives in Printer’s Row with his artist/storyteller wife Scottie Kersta-Wilson.
