Van Horn Woods East Playground


Fencing has been installed on the new sensory playground located at Van Horn Woods East (accessible via Frontage Road). The playground is geared toward those on the autism spectrum. The new play area is part of an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $400,000 for the redevelopment of Van Horn Woods that was awarded in July of 2022.

Dad-Daughter Dance


Treat your little girl to a night she will never forget! Dancing, crafts, refreshments, and fun highlight the annual Daddy Daughter Dance set for 6:30 to 8:30, February 9 at the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center. All daughters receive a photo with their special date. Price is per couple. Additional children may be registered for $10. Registration is REQUIRED. No tickets are sold at the door.

Grandparent/Grandchild BINGO


Build a bond with your grandchild while enjoying a night of food and fun at the first-ever Grandparent/Grandchild Bingo! This NEW event runs 5 to 6:30 p.m., January 18 at the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center. The night includes snacks and beverages, and prizes are awarded after each game. Easy-to-identify pictures are used so even the youngest of players can follow along. Please register each participant. For ages 5 and up.

NEW! Classes at NTEC


Normantown Equestrian Center has several new offerings available now for registration. 


Pee Wee Semi Private Lessons are for ages 5-7 and run Tuesday nights for 4-5 weeks, January through May. Sessions consist of a maximum of two riders with the first session focusing on safety, horse handling, grooming and tacking. Remaining lessons are a combination of ground work and riding. 


Junior Group Lessons are for horse-loving 7-year-olds and run Monday Nights, January through May. Lessons consist of three riders max and include safety, horse handling, grooming, tacking and riding.


Beginner Group Lessons are for ages 8-18 and run Wednesday and Thursday nights, and Saturday afternoons, January through May. Participants learn the gaits of walk and trot; how to safely lead, groom and tack; and how to prepare a horse for riding.

Youth Basketball Scorekeepers & Supervisors


Plainfield Park District is looking for scorekeepers and site supervisors for basketball season! This is a seasonal part-time position with an hourly wage of $14. League runs January 12 through March 22. Times are 5:30 to 9 p.m., Fridays; 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 1:30 to 8 p.m., Saturdays; and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays.
