Casas de Luz Spring Newsletter
Happy spring Casas de Luz community! We are excited to share some exciting news with you this month and provide you with a few updates. While things might start to open up on this side of the border, we are far away from mass vaccination in Mexico. This means it is still so important to support our communities as they continue to suffer severe effects from the pandemic. Thanks to our amazing community and supporters, we are right on track with continuing support throughout the year!
BREAKING NEWS!
Training Build
We are so excited to announce we are scheduled to build sleeping cottage #1 next month, sponsored by Iris Ann Decelles. This time, it will be a build used to train the master carpenters who will be leading sleeping cottage builds soon in the future!
Volunteers Needed
We need your help to make this build a success. We would love to bring some members of our community together and invite you to volunteer to help paint, clean up, and organize the site. You'll get a preview into what building a sleeping cottage will look like. If you'd like to volunteer (no cost!) please email us at [email protected]. We need volunteers on:

April 24: Site clean up.
May 22: Build floor & frame.
June 5: Roof & interior.
CDL Community
St. James PB&J
With supply decreasing during the pandemic, the St. James Catholic Church conducted another food drive to collect PB&J ingredients. There was such a huge response we had to build new shelves in our storage sheds! Every week a group of volunteers at St. James makes over 1,500 sandwiches to deliver to prisons in Tijuana. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to support programs in so many different areas both here in San Diego and in Tijuana.
Despensas de Luz
Cumbres
Families in Cumbres are so grateful for the support with groceries and other essential items. This month families received a special item: cereal!!! Kids love cereal because it is a treat they don't get to eat every day. It is especially important as kids need their nutrients to fuel them for a day of remote learning.
Faro de Luz
Heaven on Earth NOW continues to support Faro de Luz by providing nutritious groceries for 80 families every month. This time we were able to celebrate with a few Easter goodies provided by Kristen McBride. We continue to be amazed with our builders and their love and thoughtfulness for the communities in Mexico. You all truly know how to put a smile on so many faces!
Donations
Donation Sheds at St. James Catholic Church
Sheds are at the end of the parking lot of the church if coming from the North. If you are coming from the South, take Via de la Valle and drive towards the ocean. On Del Mar Downs Road, turn right and continue until the end of the road where you will turn left. Drive left up the hill and the sheds will be on your left! There is a rope protecting our sheds from being a dump zone, so feel free to drop off your usable donations right there! Please contact us so we know to expect it!
