Unlike lemons, money doesn’t grow on trees, so the Limoneira Employee Scholarship Fund committee works hard to raise yearly funds! All proceeds are awarded to our employees or their dependents who pursue higher education. Most recently, the committee awarded over $13,000 to deserving applicants.
One of our recent scholarship recipients, Denis Reyes Loa, says, “I am a first-generation student that will be attending California Lutheran University this upcoming fall. I plan to double major in Business Administration and Spanish. After graduating, I hope to get a job in a well-recognized company that values making a positive impact in our society.”

Limoneira has partnered with UC Riverside and other citrus growers in California to combat Huanglongbing. HLB blocks the flow of nutrients through the trees. It starts with small yellow asymmetrical leaves and progresses to branch dieback. At one point, the fruit won’t be able to ripen properly, resulting in a few small, deformed fruits that are bitter to taste. Eventually, the tree will die.
California has thankfully not been ravaged by HLB, but we know it is imperative that we help in the fight against this disease. To that end, we helped raise $8 million as part of the California Citrus Research Foundation to build a biosafety level 3 laboratory where UCR scientists are hard at work to find an end to HLB!

Labor Day is celebrated all across the country, but Tulsa, Oklahoma, celebrates a little differently—with a yummy, lemony twist! Since Labor Day 1994, all the kids across Tulsa have volunteered their time to sell lemonade for the children and families at the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless in an event known as “Lemon-Aid”! The first seven years of Lemon-Aid raised $350,000 with the help of 10,000 youth volunteers. After an extended pause, Lemon-Aid Day is coming back to Tulsa. We love seeing how impactful our favorite fruit can be. The humble lemon can make the biggest difference!
