Was it really only three years ago that #MemorialBlanket was in DC drawing attention about homelessness? And even then, we were 40 years late! Lesson to the wise - never say, "It can't get any worse for those poor people." Because, it invariably can. And with the 2024 supreme court ruling Johnson v. Grants Pass, and now the use of the military to round folks up - it actually has.
Fourteen months ago, before the display even went to Philadelphia's Independence Hall, we committed ourselves to bring #MemorialBlanket to Denver - one of the "sanctuary cities" that will likely be targeted for troop deployment (as DC has been) in the coming year.
Charles Bruce Foundation has for ten years now used writing, art, and music to highlight social justice issues, and we can't quit now. Our massive art display reminds folks that poverty causes homelessness, and that people experiencing it are far more likely to be victims of crime than perpetrators. For heaven's sake, these people need warmth and - more than ever - to know that someone cares. So, we need your help to get our blankets out there.
For just $2.50 a mile, we can get our volunteers and about a thousand east coast blankets out to Denver.
We used to rely heavily on grants from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - but they've been designated as terrorists by the people who want to crack down on homelessness - so we need to come directly to you!
Will you sponsor us a few miles? Obviously $25 bucks is 10 miles. $100 bucks is 40 miles. Hell, for $472.50 you can get us all the way to Pittsburgh. Allow us to thank you in advance for helping.
With thousands of people making blankets over the years, we know that homelessness matters to you, and we couldn't thank you enough for all you have done. If we could ask just a bit more, could you please share this fundraiser, give what you can, and help us get to our goal. Use the button below to go to our GoFundMe campaign.
