A Holiday Message from the Board

As we approach the close of the first half of the school year, we would like to extend our thanks to the Sloan administration & staff, teachers, students and parents.  We are grateful for your contributions to our success and your ongoing dedication to Sloan.
We hope that you will take this time to relax with family and friends, reflect and take pride in your accomplishments, and come back refreshed and energized for the year ahead. We have an exciting line up for the second half of the school year and you won't want to miss out.  As you start to prepare your 2017 calendars, please be sure to visit the Important Dates section (at the bottom) and include our PTO information on your calendar.  Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.  See you next year!

Join us for our next PTO meeting on January 17th at 7:00 pm with a Special Guest Speaker from Blackburn Center

Blackburn Center staff will be attending our PTO meeting on January 17th as a prelude to presenting programming to the students in May.  They will be presenting an overview of their agency and the presentations that will be given to the students in their classrooms.

Blackburn Center provides a range of services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes.  All of their services are trauma-informed, which emphasizes the emotional, psychological and physical safety of the clients.  They provide services to anyone whose life has been affected by any type of violence or crime.
Blackburn Center is also committed to providing educational services throughout Westmoreland County by providing programs to thousands of individuals each year because they strongly believe that education is one of the keys to ending gender violence and all other types of violence.  The focus for discussion at our PTO meeting will be the school-based programs with anti-bullying and child abuse prevention topics that are geared to each grade level from Kindergarten to 5th grade.

To learn more about Blackburn Center in advance of our meeting, please visit
Other guests will include administration, counselors and PTO Board members from FRMS, FRHS, Heritage and Newlonsburg.

We hope to see you there!

Call for Board Members

As a reminder, all Sloan PTO Board positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are expiring at the end of this school year.  All position are open for the next school year, and the transition period usually starts right after the voting meeting in May.  If you are interested in learning more about what is involved in being a Board member, we encourage you to reach out to the person who is currently holding that position.  Joining the Board is a great way to get involved and make a difference. This level of involvement certainly gives you an appreciation for the operational aspect of the school and district; it's rewarding, it's important, and it's even fun!
Becoming involved sooner rather than later will make for a much easier transition. Also check out
