Message from the Board

As we kick off the second semester, we would like to reinforce our dedication to communications with you.  Just like the "comment jar" we added to the outer lobby at school, our email addresses (especially are open to your comments, suggestions, and concerns.  I have yet to completely master mindreading (although I think the correspondence course is starting to pay off), so your input is vital to helping us maintain the kind of PTO of which you can be proud.  I would also urge anyone who has not yet done so to save our website,, as a bookmark on your browser so that you can keep up on the latest posts, calendar dates, and photos. While you are there, please be sure to sign up for our Email Newsletter on the Welcome Page. It continues to be the best source for keeping your finger on the pulse of what's happening with the PTO.  And, of course, our meetings are also a great place to learn and share. As we move forward in the year, keep your eyes peeled for new and exciting options, hopefully coming soon.

Stay warm!

Jenn Taylor

PTO Meeting Summary

The Second Semester Kick-Off General Assembly Meeting was held on Thursday, January 16th at 9:30 AM in the LGI. The meeting was attended by three Executive Board Members, Principal Burns, and five PTO Members. Recent and upcoming assemblies were discussed as part of the Vice President's Report, and updated financial information and the year-to-date budget, were presented as part of the Treasurer's Report. In reviewing Committee Reports, the need for help with the Photography Committee was cited. This new committee was formed with the hope of having committee members photograph and document PTO events for the website and potential use by Lifetouch in the yearbook. However, due to attrition and work commitments, it has not gotten off the ground. Interested persons should contact President Jennifer Taylor at Recent and upcoming fundraisers were also discussed. The Executive Board is eager to receive ideas for new fundraisers that would be low maintenance, build community, and generate income significant enough to possibly reduce the number of fundraisers we host and/or to offset the cessation of some of our smaller fundraisers if interest wanes or if Committee Chair vacancies are left unfilled. We would also gladly welcome the formation of a Fundraising Committee to brainstorm and research new ideas. Anyone with fundraising ideas or an interest in being a part of a Fundraising Committee should contact President Jennifer Taylor at the email address listed above. Lastly, recent and upcoming events were discussed. For a full account of the meeting, please click here to read the Minutes. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00 PM in the LGI.

First Time Fundraisers

In an attempt to find new, low maintenance, and beneficial ways to earn money for our organization, Sloan PTO recently coordinated two fundraisers in conjunction with local businesses. Saturday, December 14th, a blustery and snowy day, was Sloan PTO Day at Hoss's. Six Sloan families braved weather conditions and enjoyed warm meals while supporting the PTO with their purchases. Although we did not accrue the $300.00 in sales necessary before we begin receiving 20% cash back, thanks to our diners, we are now on our way and will plan for additional Sloan PTO Days at Hoss's in the near future.

Sloan PTO also recently offered our families a chance to raise money for our organization while receiving discounted haircuts at the locally-owned and operated Sport Clips during the month of December. We thank the three supporters who welcomed the New Year in (hair)style!Female students and their fathers, and male students and their mothers, will have another opportunity to tame their locks when they receive coupons before the Father-Daughter Dance and Mother-Son Event. At the close of those two fundraising time periods, we'll share the total amount raised.

Thank you all for your support of Sloan PTO!

Spirit Sales

FRSD A big "THANK YOU" to our Spirit Sale volunteers for the January sales: Jennifer Taylor; Debby Rhea; Marlo Ayres; and Kate Sell. Thanks to all of the parents who sent your kiddos with quarters to spend, too! A good time was had by all. Mark your calendars for the next sale on March 13th and 14th when we will be selling drawstring swim bags. Go Panthers!!!

Bake Sale

We would like to extend a huge "Thank you!" for the generosity of those who dropped off sweet treats and made purchases at Bake Sale during this month's Art Show. Together, we raised another $141.00 for the PTO, bringing our Bake Sale profits to nearly $1,000 so far this year. That is remarkable! We look forward to providing our families with the next sweets spread during Science Night on Friday, March 28th.

With Gratitude,

Your Bake Sales Chairs Kara Bertucci and Pam Rowell

Mr. Miller, who recently completed the Oceans Seven Challenge, is a Franklin Regional graduate, world-renown swimmer, and motivational speaker. His motto, "Every breath is a gift" is the driving force behind his desire to push the boundaries of what is possible and inspire our students to push themselves through tough challenges as well.

5th Grade Farewell

Hello 5th grade parents! It's hard to believe this is our children's last year at Sloan Elementary School!  We are in the process of planning the 5th Grade Farewell and would like your input and help with this huge task.  We want to make the event fun and memorable for them!

We are holding a meeting on Thursday, January 30th at 9:30 a.m. in the LGI for all 5th grade parents interested in being involved. (If there is a two hour delay, the meeting will be rescheduled for Friday, January 31st at 9:30 am in the LGI.)   Please try to attend.  We want your input on how to make this the very best event for our 5th graders.  If you cannot make the meeting, please contact us to let us know you are interested in serving on one of the many committees, providing input, or have questions.

We will be communicating via email to let you know what is happening.  Please let us know what email address you prefer to use for this communication.  If you do not have email, please let us know so that we can contact you another way.

The committee has established a closed Facebook group to encourage communication. It will be open only to parents of 5th graders at Sloan. The link is, and the name is Sloan Elementary Class of 2021 - 5th Grade Farewell
