The Dance-A-Thon Campaign is officially in full boogie!

We are off to a great start!   P arent Letters and Student Pledge Forms were sent home two weeks ago. We have several Corporate Sponsors already, and our online contributions are over $1,000! Visit www.sloanptodat16.mydagsite.com to donate online.

Remember, this is our  PRIMARY  fundraiser, so please consider this when donating, seeking sponsors and providing us with a little bit of your time. Students raising $50 or more earn a DAT T-shirt!

Students may turn in their pledge sheets at school on the mornings of: October 7, 14, and 17-20  (prior to the event).  There will be tables setup at the top of both ramps as the children enter the building in the morning,  At that time, they will receive their wristband.

On the day of the Dance-A-Thon, s tudents will receive basket raffle tickets delivered to their homeroom teacher,  based on the amount of pledges they have received.  Students will have their dance party in the gym during their recess period.

If you know an organization that might be interested in being one of our Corporate Sponsors (in return for lots of publicity in various media based upon sponsorship levels), please contact Marlo Ayres at  marloayres@comcast.net before October 10th.

Remember, the Dance-A-Thon will be held on Friday, October 21.

Calling all Mad Scientists!

Mad Science of Pittsburgh is bringing their Crazy Chemworks After School program to Sloan!

Shake up a flask of fun in the lab as a junior chemist! This hands-on and interactive program of chemistry  is packed solid with cool reactions. Students put on goggles and
change liquid to solid and back again. They get to handle laboratory tools, build and break molecules, and pick up some tricks on chemical changes.

The program will run from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm on Tuesdays, from November 8th - December 13th (6 weeks) at a cost of $72 per student.

Registration is limited. Visit https://register.madscience.org/PITTSBURGH/ to register your student.

Clearances Workshop

On Tuesday, October 18, 2016 the Franklin Regional School District is hosting a clearance workshop from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Heritage Computer Lab. During this time the computer lab will be open for you to drop in and use a computer to apply online for your Child Abuse ($8 Employee/Free Volunteer), PA Criminal History($8 Employee/Free Volunteer) and FBI ($28.50 Employee/Volunteer) clearances. Fingerprints scanned by a mobile provider for the FBI clearance will be available during this time by appointment only. There will be no formal presentation during this workshop. Volunteers will be on hand to assist you with questions or concerns.

If you want to schedule an appointment to have your fingerprints scanned please send an email to  hroffice@franklinregional.k12.pa.us, no phone calls please. Appointments are limited and fill up fast. Once you  have been registered you will receive a confirmation email with your appointment time. You must have your FBI registration number in order to get your fingerprints scanned. If you need to register for your FBI clearance prior to your appointment, please arrive at least 20 minutes early. If all appointments for fingerprinting are filled you may still attend the workshop to apply for the other two clearances and register for the FBI fingerprint scanning. We can then provide you with alternate locations to go and be fingerprinted.

For more details on what to bring, visit the Franklin Regional School District website, and there is a link on the home page, view the flyer here:  http://sloanpto.com/forms/

All 3 clearances are required to work in the school for parties, field day, or any volunteer activity.

Fall Family Fun Night 2016 - Save the Date!

Keep a lookout for FUN!!!  Fall Family FUN Night, Sloan PTO's annual social event is scheduled for Friday, November 4th.  Planning is just getting started, but past activities have included: dancing, games, entertainment, a special science presentation by Mad Science of Pittsburgh, photo ops, face painting, goodies, a cake walk and more. All in all, it's a fun night for kids to share their school with their parents, and have a blast with their classmates.

Details about this year's event will be coming home very soon in backpacks, on www.sloanpto.com  and on the Sloan PTO Press Facebook page.  Anyone who has special skills that they'd like to share for the event, or who wishes to help plan or volunteer on the night of the event, should contact the planning committee at DiMieriTaylor@gmail.com

Birthday Books

Will your child be celebrating a birthday in October?  One unique way to commemorate your student's special day is with a Birthday Book from Sloan Library!  For just a $6.00 donation toward the book's cost, your child can choose from our new book section on the Birthday Book Shelf AND be the very first one to check it out!

Your child's selected book will include a personalized dedication plaque, and a picture of him/her holding the book will go up on Sloan's Birthday Wall outside the Library.  For a Birthday Book Form and additional information, please click here, or visit the Library Resources section of Sloan's webpage.  Proceeds from Birthday Books go toward the purchase of more books for our Library collection.
