Message from the Board

Whew, the holidays are a busy time here at Sloan! Between our Winter Fundraiser, After School Programs, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, Holiday Shop, Winter Parties, Music programs, and a slew of classroom volunteer opportunities, it starts to feel like we all live at the school around this time of year. We know the kids and teachers appreciate it, and our PTO Board takes special pride in the amazing families who dedicate so much time and energy making this time special in and outside of school. Thank you!

In other news, you may have noticed a few new fundraiser flyers coming home. Our Board is making an effort to find unique options to fund our programs that require less effort from our dedicated volunteers and are less intrusive to our members. A few of our fun new products and services moving forward include evenings at Hoss's and Chuck E Cheese, a partnership with Sports Clips, a Zumba party, an exciting new clothing sale service, a personalized cookbook and more. Keep your eyes peeled for details after the new year.

Happy Holidays!

Your Executive Board.

Treasurer's Report

On behalf of the PTO Board, I wanted to share a year-to-date summary of our fundraisers and thank those individuals who are so instrumental in the success of these events.

Bake Sale - Our first Bake Sale took place during Open House nights in September and raised $857 - $232 over our full budget for the year!  Thanks go out to Pam Rowell and Kara Bertucci for taking this on!

Book Fair - Our Fall Book Fair raised $2,237, which is almost half of what we projected for both the Fall and Spring Book Fairs. Thank you Kate Sell, Jodi Vollero, and Robin Wareham for managing this enormous project!

Clothing Sales - Our fall Clothing Sale earned almost $600, which was $100 over our budgeted amount.  Thank you Brooke Masten and Brenda Conner for your hard work on this demanding project!

KidStuff Books - We raised $2,850 for the KidStuff fundraiser, $100 over our budget.  Thank you to both Megan Ciaramitaro and Lori Henninger for your hard work and dedication on this event.

Market Day - So far we have raised $780 through Market Day purchases.  Our annual budget is $1,950. This monthly event is organized and orchestrated by Chairs Laura Pasqualini and Pam Zimmerman.  Thank you for your past and future work on this!

Original Works - Original Works raised $524, $24 over our budgeted amount.  Shelly Traphagen did a great job pulling this together and is anxiously awaiting arrival of the finished products!

Spirit Sales - Although Spirits Sales are more of a service than a fundraiser, almost $500 worth of festive school trinkets and gear has been sold this year, adding quite a bit of spirit into our school. Thank you, Chris Sadoski, for managing this committee!

Student Directory - We raised $521 on the sales of the Student Directories, which was $279 shy of our goal.  Thank you Megan Ciaramitaro for managing this valuable project!

Vocelli Food Cards - We have raised $100 on Vocelli Food Card sales to date. Our annual budget is $260, so we are shy of reaching our goal.  Thank you Shelly Traphagen for taking on this fundraiser also!

Winter Fundraiser - We raised $2,901 on the Winter Fundraiser (Beall's poinsettias and Sarris Candy), which was $1,300 shy of our goal.  Thank you Corin Young for all the work you did on this event!

Thanks to all of the parents, students, relatives, and staff members who have sold or purchased merchandise and to all of the volunteers who gave their time to helping with these events and projects. We would not be successful without you!

Nancy Golembiewski, Sloan PTO Treasurer

Carnegie Science Center Assembly

Sloan PTO brought the Carnegie Science Center back to Sloan for another amazingly fun and educational interactive experience on Wednesday, November 27th. At the "Space Encounters" assembly, our students blasted off into interplanetary space and experienced comets, vacuums, life aboard the International Space Station, and walking on the moon.  To view pictures of our eager volunteers in action, click here.

Staff Holiday Luncheon

This year's Holiday Staff Luncheon was a festive, snowy success thanks to the creative efforts of Hospitality Chairs Jeanine Snyder and Joanne McClelland. The soup and salad-themed feast warmed our teachers' hearts, not just because of the cozy cuisine, but also because of all of the wonderful goodies sent in by our Sloan families. Thanks to everyone for chipping in to show appreciation to our dedicated staff!  And a special thanks to John Mangone, District Manager from Wendy's for providing the delicious freshly made chili.  To view pictures, please click here.

Holiday Shop

The week of December 9th brought hustle and bustle to the LGI as the annual PTO Holiday Shop took place.  The children entered in a state of excited anticipation and left with big, proud grins on their faces.  Some of the popular new items this year were parachute bracelets, sparkle cosmetic mirrors, small lighted Christmas tree, stuffed animal key chains, sparkle Christmas trees, little wooden sailboats and stick on mustaches.

The Holiday Shop Committee wishes to thank all of our parent volunteers who helped out. Without them, this event would be very difficult to do.  Your time and holiday spirit were greatly appreciated!  We also extend a HUGE thank you to Heidi Groth who has chaired this event for the last 10 years!  Heidi, as you officially move out of Sloan, we hope we make you proud in continuing this annual tradition.

Sport Clips Holiday Fundraising Special

Sloan PTO is teaming up with Sport Clips in Blue Spruce Shoppes to promote this new, local business, raise funds for our organization, and provide our faculty and students and their families and friends with a valuable, discounted service! Just in time for the holidays, Junior Varsity Haircuts will be 50% off with the purchase of a Varsity Haircut between now and December 31st. Though geared toward Y-chromosome carriers, Sport Clips also caters to women and girls. To take advantage of this offer, just bring the flyer (found here) with you, and feel free to spread the word by sharing it with others! Sloan PTO will earn $2.00 each time this offer is redeemed. Thank you for your support, and may you ring in the New Year with in (hair)style!
