PTO General Assembly Meeting

March 18, 7pm - Sloan LGI

We are very proud of the many wonderful things that the PTO is able to bring to Sloan.  However, much of what we do is based in tradition and lately many of you have offered ideas and opinions about PTO happenings to the board, on Facebook, in emails, and in our suggestion jar.  As a result, we have decided to dedicate our March general assembly meeting as a forum to discuss and share YOUR ideas for making next year's PTO fresh, exciting and even better than it already is!

This timing will give us the opportunity to weigh options in advance of our April voting meeting when Chairpersons will be decided for the 2014-2015 school year and our planning season officially begins.

We really hope to see new faces, as well as our seasoned volunteers.  Refreshments will be served and children are welcome to come along.

Heritage PTO Clearances Workshop

If you are interested in obtaining your clearances and fingerprinting to volunteer at Franklin Regional for chaperoning field trips, going to Deer Valley with your fifth grader, being a Homeroom Parent, attending classroom parties, assisting in the Computer Lab, Library, Clerical Room, or volunteering in any other regular capacity, the Heritage PTO is holding another Clearances Workshop tonight, Tuesday, March 11th, from 5:00-7:00 PM. The workshop will take place in the Heritage Computer Lab on the lower level of Heritage (the same floor as the Cafeteria). There will be online access to forms, stamps, envelopes, cashiers' checks, and a mobile provider who will do the fingerprinting. You will need the following items: a credit card; your Social Security Number;  your driver's license or passport (photo ID); addresses of where you have lived, and with whom you've lived, since 1975 (partial or complete); and $10 in cash. The cost is $10 for the PA Criminal Clearance (credit card), $10 for Child Abuse Clearance (cash), and $28.75 (credit card) if you need fingerprints.

Spirit Sales

The next Spirit Sales of the year will take place on Thursday, March 13th and Friday, March 14th as the children enter the building in the morning. Kindergarten, First and Second grade should plan to shop on Thursday. Third, Fourth and Fifth grade should plan to shop on Friday. We will be selling pencil toppers (75 cents), tattoos (25 cents), beads (25 cents), pencils (25 cents) and swim bags ($8). If you would like to help at one of the Spirit Sales, please contact me.

Prepare to be amazed by interactive games, experiments, demonstrations, and displays brought to us local science-based companies and institutions, Senior High and Middle School student scientists, and FR teachers and parents! Don't forget to bone-up on your mad science knowledge for a round of Science Jeopardy with our own returning crowd favorite, Dr. Brecht! Bake Sale

Our last Bake Sale of the school year will take place on Friday, April 25th at the Science & Arts Fair.  We have cancelled the Bake Sale that was to happen during Science Night due to the close proximity in these two events.  We will be looking for donations of baked goods & will send a notice home closer to the date.  Thank you to everyone that has supported all the previous bake sales & we look forward to your patronage again.

Father-Daughter dance

This year's "Psychedelic 60's" Father-Daughter Dance will take place on Friday, April 4th from 6-9:00 PM in the Middle School Cafeteria. The cost, which covers dinner, dancing, and "surprises," is $27.00 per father-daughter couple and $9.00 for additional daughters. The night will also feature professional pictures available for purchase beginning at 5:30 PM. A drawing will be held for four lucky father-daughter couples who pay by Thursday, March 27th to win a free limo ride to and from the event! The last day to register is Tuesday, April 1st. Please be aware that registration for the event may be closed prior to the deadline if the event fills up. To view and print a copy of the registration form that will be coming home soon, please click here.

SportClips Fundraiser

Just in time for the Father-Daughter Dance, Sloan PTO is teaming up with SportClips in Blue Spruce Shoppes to provide our Sloan Dads and their daughters with a valuable, discounted service while raising money for the PTO. Flyers (Please click here for additional copies.) and coupons (Please click here for additional copies.) have been sent home with female students already. Each time a coupon is redeemed, Sloan PTO earns $2, and you save $2 while walking away with dapper dos! This promotion runs through June 30th, so please feel free to take advantage of the offer multiple times and to share the coupons with others.

Science & Art Fair Registrations

Will your child be celebrating a birthday in March?  One unique way to commemorate your student's special day is with a Birthday Book from Sloan Library!  For just a $6.00 donation toward the book's cost, your child can choose from our new book section on the Birthday Book Shelf AND be the very first one to check it out! Your child's selected book will include a personalized dedication plaque, and a picture of him/her holding the book will go up on Sloan's Birthday Wall outside the Library. For a Birthday Book Form and additional information, please click here, or visit the Library Resources section of Sloan's webpage. Proceeds from Birthday Books go toward the purchase of more books for our Library collection.

Spring Book Fair - Save the Date

The Sloan Book Fair has a new date! Wake up from your winter siesta and get ready for our Spring Book Fair Fiesta! Dust off your school calendars and scratch off the Book Fair dates listed at the end of this month and the beginning of next. We have moved the Spring Book Fair to the sunny, warm month of May! During the week of May 12 - May 16, our students will celebrate reading by visiting the Book Fair during their scheduled library times. Keep on the lookout for more information arriving home soon in your child's backpack as well as in the e-News. Some of the exciting things to look forward to include the new books Scholastic has made available for our kids to enjoy during the summer, as well as wonderful opportunities to volunteer!
