Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart.

~Ecclesiastes 5:2

“Slow down, you’re going too fast; got to make the morning last.” So went the lyrics of “the 59th Street Bridge, a Simon and Garfunkel song from the 60’s. Good advice for anyone. The song tells us to slow down to enjoy the wonders of life. But there is another good reason for not going too fast.

The world pushes us in a hurry up mode. No time to think through something, just move! This is not a good way to live a thoughtful and meaningful life.

Think through what you are going to say.

Do not be quick with your mouth. Think about where you place your loyalty and love. Don’ jump on something because it looks good. Take time to reflect.

Often the greatest mistakes we may make come from answering without thinking, pledging loyalty without discernment.

Spending time in God’s word daily; taking time to pray and listen for God’s voice; are the best defense against this rush and hurry. In the quiet of the morning, you can put on the strength of God, to slow you down in the rush of the world you face that day. Ask Jesus to walk with you through the day.
