Feeling Uninspired? Get to a Meeting!
Sarah Breymeier
This time of year is always a little strange. There seems to be an intense "back to work" vibe after the excitement of summer has died. For some, this could be a feeling of great motivation to end the year energized and productive; but I get the feeling that most are simply exhausted and just want to "get through it". The last quarter of the year always seems to bring on a mindset of focusing on the holidays and there's a bit of a slow down right before the finish line.

My advice - get your booty to a meeting! I know that probably sounds like the last thing you want to do if you're feeling tired, but I have found that when I put myself back into the mix of "my people" (you guys), I get a new sense of inspiration and I no longer feel tired. I feel energized.

I remember how I felt during the COVID shut down. Part of me was loving the lack of stress that comes with the conference travel gig. I also remember that it was like pulling teeth to get me to sit down and create any new content. But then I went to a meeting. Side note - I had to; it's my job. But the result of my obligation was the reigniting of my creativity and passion for my profession.

When you stay in your office, or at your home and only surround yourself with your co-workers and family, you are living in a vacuum. When you are in the vacuum it's very difficult to achieve those incredible endorphins you get when you are in brainstorming mode.

So, one - get to a meeting and do it in person! You don't get out of a vacuum online with no face-to-face interaction or true brainstorming opportunities that only in-person meetings offer.

Two - try a different kind of meeting. You may be writing this tip off if you are sick of going to the meetings you've always experienced. Well, try something new!

Consider a condition-specific meeting (i.e. podopediatrics). Consider a related field (i.e. ortho, physical therapy, wound care). There are dozens upon dozens of medical meetings that are related to podiatry, but don't have the same exact topics and speakers you've seen a million times throughout the years.

Bottom line - new experiences create new ideas. Get out there.

(this means I am copying/pasting the FIRST FOUR PARAGRAPHS from the DPM Tip above; but it's only because it applies for we vendors too).

Ok - here's where it's different than the DPM Tip and specific to exhibitors.

If/when you do decide to get to a meeting and propel yourself back into a world with peers and colleagues who understand the challenges you go through as a vendor in podiatry, you must maximize the time!

Instead of recreating the wheel in my advice here, I am going to remind you of a Trick of the Trade from August of last year:

This tip emphasizes how you can maximize the time you are at a meeting and surround yourself with people who are going to help you jolt yourself out of a slump and flip your mindset for Q4.
SPEAK UP, Vendors
No Picking Your Brain This Month
Instead, My Partner In Crime Needs Your Love
Hey Guys! This is is our friend, Ann...
As you likely know by now, Ann loves her exhibitor family - all of you! In fact, here are are some amazing pictures we have with some of you...
What you may not know, is that earlier this month, a giant tree fell on Ann's house and basically chopped it in half.... yeah.
Her son was nearly squashed (that's a euphemism for killed) and in order to not get super emotionally distracted, I'm just going to describe the situation as.... my best friend's life is now completely turned upside down and I can't do anything about it.

Please return the love that Ann has bestowed upon all of us; those who are lucky enough to be in her path of positivity and laughter...

I know she would love to hear anything that would take her mind off of the fact that she has to share a camper for a whole year (minimum) with three smelly boys and a dog.
Ok, let's be honest; the dog part is actually heaven. Moose is the best thing that's ever happened to Ann other than me.
I truly hope you know I'm serious. 😉

Thanks you guys,

XOXO
Sarah

Quick Tips for Meeting Planners

Elevate Your Meeting by Experiencing Meetings
Sarah Breymeier
If you've read the DPM and Vendor Tips in this month's newsletter, you've noticed that I am strongly encouraging all of us to get out of the house and get to a meeting. But wait, you're a meeting planner. Why would you go to a meeting?

We don't know what we don't know, right? There are so many exciting events going on outside of the podiatry space that we aren't even aware of... but that doesn't mean we have to keep it that way!

Consider going to a meeting that isn't yours - whether it be within the podiatry space or not. I would recommend you do a little bit of both.

Maybe there's a meeting in podiatry that you've heard is all the rage. It would be helpful to get a first-hand account of that experience and take notes for their key success factors.

I'm certainly not telling you to be a copy cat, but none of us are in this alone. We are all getting better by emulating best practices. But we won't know what the best practices are if we don't get out of our own way.
