Help us Knock Out Knotweed on Saturday
Knotweed
Saturday, August 10
8:30 - 10:30

We need your help this Saturday to remove Japanese knotweed from our test site on the prom! New and seasoned volunteers are welcome.  We've tackled a significant portion of the hillside - now we are returning to target a small remaining portion.

Be a star - grab your work gloves and don a pair of sturdy shoes. Help us beautify our park. Email [email protected] to RSVP. We will meet on the slope between Cutter St and Fort Allen. Please bring your own tools if you have them.

Last Chance! Tell us about your Garden Tour Experience.
We are seeking feedback from
those who participating in the Hidden Gardens of Munjoy Hill Tour and would love to hear from you! Please follow this link to fill out our survey and let us know how we did!

Water Installation - Loring Memorial Trail!

We are pleased to share with you that we've finally been able to secure a water source at the Loring Memorial Circle. Two years in the making, this water source is currently only for maintaining plants along the Loring Trail and helping the Loring Family care for the annuals at the Charles Loring Memorial.

Our future goal is to eventually acquire a drinking fountain hook up too! Our thanks to the City of Portland for helping make this long awaited dream a reality!!!!

Fort Sumner - North St - TONIGHT

In case of inclement weather - please check our website for updates.  The decision to perform (or not) will be made by 5 pm.

Think SUNSHINE!!!!

 Summer Concert Season 2013

Fort Sumner Park - 68 North St

Thursday, August 8

7-8:15 p.m

Sly-Chi [chee], from Portland, Maine, defies standard musical genres. It takes more than a word to describe their style. There's funk, soul, a little R&B - all with an underlying jazz edge. Throw in the classic rock and you'll be pleasantly lost to identify them. This unique combination - along with the sheer size of the band - creates an unmistakable energy. The group has horns, 4 singers, and a super-tight rhythm section to support all that sound. They pack dance floors much like the bands they're often compared to - Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Brand New Heavies. Just ask their devoted fans.

Sly Chi struck their first tune in 1999, developing a dedicated following in Maine. Thanks to a number of out-of-state shows in recent years, their fan base has grown. Add to that their 2004-released debut CD, Wave Sound, which hit the charts in Maine and New Hampshire, as well as a record-breaking number of wins in the Portland Phoenix's annual Best Music Poll, and you've got a group that's just scratched the surface of success. Give it up for Rafael Keilt-Freyre, Tyler Stanley, Maxwell Cantlin, Matthew Day, Brian D. Graham, David Henault, and Andi Fawcett. They pride themselves on packing the dance floor so let's show them a good time! Check out slychi.com for more information.

Fort Allen Rehabilitation Project moves forward!
Postcard
We are excited to announce that the Fort Allen Rehabilitation Project was advertised for bid on Monday, August 5th!

We're still hopeful of breaking ground this fall to accomplish the hardscape; utilities, roadwork and pathways. Plantings will need to wait until spring. Stay tuned for more information as our biggest project to-date continues to unfold!

Thank You for Helping us Share the Music!
The Summer Concert Season is made possible through th egenerous support of sponsors dedicated to enhancing life for the Portland community.

Thanks to Mancini Electric for POWERING our Concerts and to Poland Spring for keeping us HYDRATED! Thank you, 7-11, for donating the ice to keep us COOL!

We are proud to promote our events as smoke-free!
For more information on the city's ban of smoking in our public parks and spaces, visit our website.

A Doggone Health Hazard! Let's be respectful.

Have you noticed white flags marking the mountains of doo that say "Who Dung It?". Be vigilant - if you see that someone has forgotten a bag to clean up after their pet, then offer them a hand. If there is a repeat offender, let us know and we can put you in touch with the park ranger to enforce city regulations in dog waste removal. Let's make sure that we all do our part in keeping our neighborhood park clean and beautiful for ALL users!

As our organization grows, we are making a concerted effort to care for all hilltop parks. The East End Beach and Fort Sumner on North St is often decorated with Doggie Doo, so we are taking steps to mitigate this health hazard. Our summer concerts are held at Fort Sumner, and we do not want our neighborhood guests to suffer or our kids to become sick should they come in contact with feces.
