Grubhub Drops Commissions on Delivery Orders from Independent Restaurants

Grubhub on Friday announced it will temporarily forgo $100 million in commissions on the meals it delivers from independent restaurants as a way of helping those businesses contend with the coronavirus epidemic.

The delivery service also pledged to establish a fund to assist drivers and restaurants whose incomes have dropped because of the crisis.

In order to be as proactive as we can, we have sent a letter to Governor Cuomo asking for the State to help the restaurant industry during this unprecedented crisis. We have already begun talking to the press about rent abatement and believe there are other items that could be helpful for restaurants in particular to ride out this pandemic .

We are asking you to think about what types of relief would be helpful to your business, or if you’re not impacted yet, what would help our members in the event that they may have to shut down. Please send Government Affairs Director Kevin Dugan ( Kevin@nysra.org ) your input.
