Baker-Polito Administration Files $3.5 Billion Economic Development Legislation
Recently, the Administration filed a substantial legislative package to support Massachusetts’s path forward into a post-pandemic economy, An Act Investing in Future Opportunities for Resiliency, Workforce, and Revitalized Downtowns (or FORWARD). The legislation would enable new infrastructure and jobs, and invest in every city and town in the Commonwealth. This legislation contains a significant set of opportunities to advance community and economic development, including a number of shovel-ready projects in cities and towns across the Commonwealth. These projects are consistent with the state’s policy objectives and almost all represent projects recently proposed by municipalities, and would ensure that every community receives at least $250,000 in funding. Review the more detailed summary of the bill in the press release.

Small Business Tax Survey
This November, MA voters will have before them a Constitutional Amendment which will place a 4% income tax surcharge (on top of the existing 5%) for those residents earning $1 Million or more. The RAM Board of Directors will be considering whether to take a position on this question at an upcoming meeting. The Board could vote to support, oppose, or stay neutral on the question. One of the critical considerations which should be looked at prior to taking a position on the so-called “Millionaires Tax” Constitutional Amendment is the tax structure of our members. For instance, members which are “pass-through” entities may be disproportionately harmed under this tax increase. We are attempting to determine how many of our members fit into that category. Please take 5 minutes to respond to this important survey.

Small Business Month 2022 Proclamation
Governor Baker has issued a proclamation designating May 2022 as Small Business Month in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The administration is grateful and impressed by the work this network has done to support our small businesses over these unprecedented few years. Most importantly, they remain inspired by the resilience, flexibility, and courage of our small businesses throughout the Commonwealth, as they adapted throughout the months of COVID-19-related challenges. The Governor’s Proclamation can be viewed here.

How Easy Is It to Do Business with You?
People will not do business with you if you make it hard to do business. There’s just too much competition and not enough interest.
To attract sales and become interested in your business, you want people to know, like, and trust you. Once they are interested, your work isn’t complete. You want to make it easy on them to do business.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South Hosting a Community Conversation
You're invited to play a critical role in shaping the future of our community! Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South is working with United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley to gather input about Taunton's unique strengths, concerns, and challenges; input that will be used to directly shape United Way’s work in our community.
This approach of getting feedback directly from residents marks a new way of working for United Way and promises to lead to much more collaborative solutions in the future.
As a Community Connector agency, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South will be hosting a Community Conversation which will bring together a diverse set of voices and perspectives from our community. United Way will use feedback from these sessions to set its fundraising and grantmaking priorities. Please join us
Date: Wednesday, May 11th
Time: 12:00 PM
Location: Virtual - Zoom
WHAT TO EXPECT
• Community Conversations are about open dialogue and exchange of ideas.
• Events are small group gatherings where guests share their experiences and stories, and are encouraged to imagine a better future for themselves and for our communities.
• Guests answer a series of questions, including, “What does the best version of your community look like?”
• Information gathered from the Community Conversations will be aggregated and delivered to United Way to help the organization focus its next strategic plan on the greatest needs in our community.
• Individual answers will be kept confidential.
Community Conversations are taking place in communities across United Way’s footprint, and the information gathered will be reflected in their strategic plans for the next year and beyond. If you have ideas about Taunton, this is an opportunity that’s too good to miss!
