Assigned Pooling
Assigned pooling! This fabulously fun technique has the yarn leading you on a knitting adventure, pairing hand-dyed yarn with bold color changes and special stitches that 'pop' the color transitions. A new technique that's approaching cult status in the knitting world. It's all the rage! With assigned pooling, different stitches are 'assigned' to the color changes within a skein of yarn - the background color of the yarn is knit using one stitch, while a special textured stitch is worked when you come to the accent color. How the yarn is dyed decides where the special texture stitches will occur. Super easy and soooo much fun!
Smooshy with Cashmere - Assigned Pooling Colorways
Just in time for Small Business Saturday and the start of the holiday season, Dream In Color has created three gorgeous colorways specifically with assigned pooling in mind - Sparkle, Flare, and Blitz. Like only Dream In Color can do, each combines a "dip" of super bright color against a soft, subdued background. Perfect for assigned pooling designs.

Out of Line Cowl Kit

And what's a beautiful new yarn color without a fabulous pattern to make with it. Like the Out of Line Cowl from Dream In Color Designs - a lovely new design that uses assigned pooling, creating randomly placed raised lines of bright color throughout the piece. Each row that you knit is unexpected and playful as the pattern emerges. A fun and unique project that seems tricky, but is actually super easy - the yarn does all the work!

To kick off the first official weekend of the holiday season, Dream in Color has kitted up their new assigned pooling colorways with the Out of Line Cowl pattern , added a set of 4 eye-popping stitch markers, and tucked it all inside a sassy little see-through gift bag. Choose your color, cast on, find a cozy, comfy place, and let the yarn take you on a delightful knitting journey!
Each kit includes:
  • One skein of Dream In color Smooshy with Cashmere (70% SW Merino Wool, 20% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 400 yards / 4 ounces), specially dyed for the assigned pooling technique
  • A printed copy of the Out of Line Cowl pattern
  • 4 whimsical stitch markers
  • A special gift bag, perfect for holding your cowl project

Dawn Barker is the creative force behind the new knitting technique, assigned pooling. Through countless hours exploring the dynamics of color pooling and textured stitches, she developed this compelling knitting method to make the most of hand-dyed yarns. A lifelong fiber lover and fine artist, Dawn started Barker Wool in 2017 to share her hand-dyed fine yarns and clean, modern knitting designs with the world. She lives in Amarillo, Texas with her husband and two sons.

Pre-sales of this year's tote bags have begun. And we're delighted with the design! Each potion bottle represents one of the nine participating shops. When you visit a shop, you'll get a pin you can add to the potion. Collect all nine and brew up an otherworldly collectable item!

We'll have a limited number of totes available for sale prior to and during the 2023 Crawl, but beware - they sell out quite quickly. Guarantee you'll have one of these mystic totes for all your goodies - pre-order today from the Rose City Yarn Crawl's website HERE.

Yearning for something unique, bigger and more robust? We've got bucket bags! Heidi West Designs creates these fabulous bucket bags for the Rose City Yarn Crawl each year, and they hold a massive amount of yarn, hooks, needles, patterns and magazines, notions, and all sorts of fiberlicious goodies. Keep one by your favorite crafting space to hold that extra special project (or two) in style. Big enough to hold a sweater or even a blanket in progress. We're star-struck by this year's luscious purple lining. Shazam!

These extra special buckets are available for pre-order now through January 17th, and only from a participating RCYC shop. Like For Yarns Sake! Pre-Order yours HERE.
It's a mystery! The 2023 RCYC Mystery Along patterns are officially on sale today.
One crochet and one knitted project that we know you'll enjoy making and wearing.

Purchase the 2023 Mystery Along pattern and you'll receive a pre-clue - all the information you'll need to know about recommended yarns, notions, and a general description of difficulty level. You'll also find a schedule of when each clue comes out, as well as something new for this year - registration information for the first ever virtual Zoom meeting with the designers. For five weeks starting on January 4th, a new clue will come out every week, with the final clue arriving just in time to finish your project before the Crawl starts. It's always a blast to see fellow crawlers sporting their finished projects during Crawl!

This year, we're recommending The Fibre Co.'s brand new yarn, &Make DK for the knitted mystery project, and Knitted Wit Single Fingering or Sock for the crochet project.
